Obituary of Hilda Edith Ashwell

ASHWELL, Hilda E. (nee: Lemon) Passed away suddenly on January 8, 2010 at Hotel Dieu - Grace Hospital at the age of 90 years. Predeceased by her husband Allan (1986) Loving mother to James Ashwell of Kingsville, Carol Ashwell & husband Thomas Higgs of Vancouver, B.C., Lynda and husband Fred Ferneyhough of Caledon, Jo Ashwell and husband Gavin Bakewell of Vancouver, B.C., and Pamela Hiltz of Brampton. Cherished Grandma to Levi, Aaron, and Tyler Higgs, Drew, Owen, Meredith & Bryanna Ferneyhough, Justin & Joshua Hiltz, Malcolm and Thomas Bradbury. Predeceased by grandson Bryan Ferneyhough (1987). Great- grandmother to Grace Hiltz and Lochlan Higgs. Dear sister to Ronald Lemon of Blenheim, and the late June Walton (1996) and Gerald Lemon (2007). Predeceased by parents John and Edith Lemon. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Hilda served in the R.C.A.F. (Women's Division) for 3 years as a Commissioned Section Officer in Secret Coding. She was priviliged and honoured to be one of the Veterans interviewed to describe her first hand experiences of service during WWII, which is documented in the book entitled "Testaments of Honour". Hilda was an active member of the U.C.W. at Emmanuel United Church. According to Hilda's wishes cremation has taken place. Memorial visitation at the WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 1700 Tecumseh Rd. East on Sunday, January 17th, 2010 from 1 p.m. until time of Memorial Service at 3 p.m. in the Chapel. Rev. Sharon Wilis officiating. A Veterans Service under the Auspices of the Windsor Veterans Memorial Service Committee will take place at 2 p.m.. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Windsor or Emmanuel United Church Memorial Fund.
