Obituary of Maddalena Zega

ZEGA, Maddalena (nee Bernabucci) Born in Sarnano, Macerata, Italy on November 28, 1921. Passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 13, 2009 at Malden Park Palliative Care at the age of 87. Beloved wife of the late Francesco (1979). Loving and devoted mother of Carla and husband John Di Maio, Laura and partner Angelo D'Ascanio of Toronto. Cherished nonna of Paola and Leon Melconian of Toronto, Giancarlo and Lisa Di Maio. Proud Bisnonna of Mel, Dario, Kai, Emil and Quinn Melconian, Noah and Hannah Di Maio. Dearest sister of Dora and late Giocondo (1994) Vicere of St. Catharine"s, Felice and Maria Bernabucci of Italy, predeceased by Ivo and Fiorinda Bernabucci of Italy. Predeceased by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Italo and Gemma Zega, Windsor, Augusto and Maurina Zega, Italy, Maurina and Luigi Massucci, Italy. Loving daughter of Angelo and Elisa Bernabucci. She will be dearly missed by many nieces and nephews both in Windsor and Italy. Maddalena retired from Hotel Dieu Hospital in 1986 after 21 years of service in the Housekeeping Department. She was a member of St. Angela's Christian Mothers Society. She will live in the hearts of the family and friends and will be remembered always for her strong will, determination and the solid foundation she laid. Visitation will be held at WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 1700 Tecumseh Rd. E. on Saturday, August 15, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-6 p.m. only. Prayers on Sunday at 4 p.m. Funeral Service Monday, August 17, 2009 at 10:15 a.m. from the Funeral Home then to St. Angela Merici Church for Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Entombment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson's Society of Canada, Windsor Regional Cancer Centre, Transition to Betterness or the Italian Canadian HandiCapable Association would be appreciated by the family. The family would like to extend sincere thanks and appreciation to Malden Park Continuing Care and especially Palliative Care Unit 3 South.
