Obituary of Luciano Mascarin

Mascarin, Luciano " Born March 31, 1933 in Azzano Decimo, Italy, passed into the loving arms of his savior at home surrounded by his loving family on July 20, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer. Cherished husband of Betty. Beloved father of Brenda Pizzano (Dan) and Kimberley Ionson (Steve Eck). Predeceased by his precious daughter Luciana Mascarin (Feb. 19, 1991). Loving and supportive grandfather to Jeremy Ionson, Alex-Ciana Ionson and Colton Pizzano. Luciano will be remembered fondly by his best friends, Judy and Allan McLaughlin, Laurie and Wayne Campbell and their families. Dear brother of Livio Mascarin (Rita). Predeceased by brother, Lodovico Mascarin (Italy). Luciano came to Canada in 1952 and settled in Windsor, Ontario. He joined the International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers (IUBAC), Local #6, Windsor, in November of 1955 and worked as a Bricklayer until he became Business Manager of the Local in 1979. Shortly thereafter he founded the Local"s first Medical Care Trust Fund to provide Insurance for the needs of the Local Bricklayers. Luciano retired as Business Manager of the IUBAC, Local #6 after more than 25 years of service in that office. He continued on after retirement as the Administrator of the Local 6 Trust Fund until the time of his death. Prior to his retirement, he worked tirelessly to forward the Unionized Building Trades movement locally, provincially, and internationally by serving on various committees including terms as President of the Essex & Kent County Building & Construction Trades Council, a board member of the Ontario Construction Safety Association, the Ontario Masonry Safety Association, Vice President of the Ontario Provincial Conference of the IUBAC and other posts too numerous to mention. Luciano along with his wife Betty founded the Luciana Spring Mascarin Educational Bursary (S.B.H.A.O.) after the loss of their daughter Luciana in 1991 and have continued to support and grow the bursary for the Educational aspirations of young adults with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus in the Windsor/Essex County Region. Visiting at the WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 1700 Tecumseh Rd. E. on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 from 2-5 and from 7-9 pm. Funeral service Thursday, July 23, 2009 11 am. Interment Windsor Memorial Gardens. Donations made to the Luciana Spring Mascarin Educational Bursary of S.B.H.A.O. at the funeral home or at the Windsor Family Credit Union.
