Obituary of Maria Josephine Sofianov

SOFIANOV, Maria Josephine (nee Vettese) It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our wife, mother, nonna, and friend at Hospice Village on June 13, 2009. Josephine was born November 18, 1932 in Cassino, Frosinone, Italy and immigrated to Canada in 1963 to join her family in anticipation of a better life. Loving and devoted wife of 44 years to Dimitar (Jim). Most precious mother to Linda Badour and husband Marc, Daniela Sofianov, and Susan Howie and husband Kent. Cherished nonna to Alexander and Andrew Badour, Matthew and Isabelle Howie. Survived by her brother Antonio Vettese and wife Maria of Cassino, Italy and by brother Michael Vettese and wife Angela of Tecumseh. Predeceased by her parents Antonio (1957) and Maria Antonia (1992), brother Alfredo (1943) and sister Francesca Pennesi (2004). Loving zia to Mario Pennesi and wife Rita, Maria Vettese, John Vettese of Windsor and Gian Luca Vettese, Alessio Vettese, and Lorenzo Vettese of Italy. Also survived by many relatives in Canada, the United States and Italy. Josephine was a strong and loving woman who devoted many wonderful years to her family. Her passions were cooking for her loved ones, tending to her vegetable garden, and growing beautiful flowers and fruit trees. She will always be remembered for the many wonderful meals which she prepared with love. Her hands were golden and she put her heart into everything she did. We will all miss those beautiful hands. We feel so fortunate to have had such a loving and caring mother who would always put everyone"s needs before hers. Josephine was truly a special woman, a most faithful wife, and the best mother anyone could be blessed with. A private family service was held at WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME (519)253-7234. Entombment Heavenly Rest Cemetery. As an expression of your sympathy, Josephine requested memorial donations be made to the Hospice Village of Windsor and Essex County Residence.
