Obituary of Beatrice Pope S.N.J.M.

POPE, Sister Mary of Loretto ( Beatrice Pope ) S.N.J.M. Born February 12, 1917. Passed away peacefully on March 9, 2009 at Regency Park Nursing Home at the age of 92 after 72 years of religious profession. Sister Loretto is survived by her sisters Roma McKeaff and Dorothy Pope and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, George Pope and Albina (Picard) and siblings Rev.Joseph Pope, C.S.B, Cyril, Lawrence, Brother George Pope, C.Ss.R. and Doreen ( Sister Mary of St. Andre, C.G.S.). Born in Lindsay , Ontario. Sister entered the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary at Hochelaga, Quebec in 1936 and pronounced her vows on August 18, 1936. Sister Loretto taught at St.John the Baptist School in Chicago, and several Elementary Schools in Windsor and Amherstburg, the latest, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Windsor. She also served as Principal from time to time and as Prefect of Boarders at St. Mary's Academy, Windsor. Retired after 40 years in education, Sister spent her time volunteering at Grace Hospital and collecting clothing for the poor. She continued her involvement in several ministries until she lost her sight. Visiting at the WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME , 1700 Tecumseh Rd East on Wednesday March 11, 2009 from 2 to 5 & 7 to 9 PM. Prayers Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 PM. Everyone is welcome to join her family and friends on Thursday March 12, 2009 at Our Lady of Assumption Parish (350 Huron Church Rd ) from 9:00 AM until the Mass of the Resurrection at 9:30 AM. Interment Heavenly Rest Cemetery. In kindness memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of the Holy Names for their on - going ministries.
