Dear Aunt Marge to many, many nieces and nephews. Greta will also be sadly missed by friends and staff at Maisonville Retirement Home. Greta Barbe was born in 1915 in Coniston, Ontario. She was very young when her family moved to Ford City. Greta was barely a teenager when her mother died leaving her dad with 7 children to raise. To keep the family together, Greta chose to quit school and become "mother" to her brothers and sisters: Eveline, Gertrude, Hector, Maurice, Wilfred and Janet. Later, for 5 years Greta repeatedly said no to Gid Soulliere's marriage proposals; she wanted to dance! In 1940, she finally accepted. Marge and Gid had 7 children: Lucille, Yvette, Paul (deceased), Dianne, Claude, Roger and Phillipe. While raising her family, she was involved with PTA, Catholic Women's League, became a Red Cross Volunteer and a canvasser for March of Dimes and the Cancer Society. When she was no longer able to offer her time as a volunteer, she took on contributing annually to 24 charities. After Gid's death in 1970, Marge did a lot of travelling; she spent time in Florida; she went to Hawaii; she took an Alaskan cruise and she travelled throughout Europe and the Middle East. Marge eventually moved in with daughter Lucille and husband Joel Gould. For a third time she became a "mother", this time, to her three grandchildren: Laura, Matt and Jason.
