Obituary of Steve Zokvic

ZOKVIC, Steve “Stjepan “ April 3, 1939-February 12, 2020 Passed away peacefully at Villages of Aspen Lake with his family by his side, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. Steve was born in Brlog, Kamanje, Croatia and immigrated to Canada in 1962. Loving husband of Mary Ann (nee Peris) for 55 years. Proud father of Karen (David) Kinnear and Anthony (Andrea). Adored grandfather of Andrew, Alyssa, Aidan and Natalie. Dear brother of Josip (Milka) of Croatia, Misko (Danica), Dragutin (Nevenka) and Janko. Predeceased by his parents Dragutin and Marija Zokvic, and baby brother Dragutin (1947), his in-laws Nick and Mary Peris and Stara Mati Ana (Kolenac) Marsic. Steve will be remembered by his sisters in-law and brothers in-law, Caroline and Branko Tomicic, Debra and the late John Peris. Steve will be missed by his nieces, nephews, kumovi and friends. Steve was a skilled tradesman, working as a machinist at Dominion Forge, then at Hiram Walker as a Maintenance Manager in the bottling and machine shop where he retired. He felt honoured being a member of Knights of Columbus, Kardinal A. Stepinac Council #11774, serving as Financial Secretary and then as Grand Knight. He was also a member of the 4th Degree, Fr. Alphonse Kerckhaert Assembly #2289. A special thank you to the staff at “The Riverside Neighbourhood” at the Villages of Aspen Lake, for their care and compassion shown to Steve and his family. A deep gratitude to Steve’s tablemates George, Ron, Russell and Marcel. Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. That’s where Ash (his beloved dog) will be waiting for Steve. And when that day comes, Ash will stop running and playing because in the distance Ash spots him. He begins to run-when they finally meet they cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again! Then they cross the Rainbow Bridge together.
