Obituary of Valentina Olexson

OLEXSON Valentina (nee Czorna) Passed away peacefully at Malden Park Continuing Care Centre, on January 2, 2009 at the age of 92 years. "Auntie Val" was born on June 14, 1916 in Volgograd, Russia. She was pre-deceased by her parents Emilian (1969) and Aleksandra (1973), her husband George W. (1986), and her sister, Tosa. She is survivied by her adopted brother, Mike Calyn and his wife Ruth, their children Cathy and Paul and their families, as well as her nephew Wladmyr Bondaruk of Ternopilska Oblast, Ukraine and his children Valentine of Moscow, Russia and Natalia and Aleksey of Ternopil, Ukraine. Valentina will be dearly missed by the Kozodoy and Cyr families. Val and her parents emigrated to Canada on the Empress of Scotland in 1930, and settled in Tarnopol, Saskatchewan. Val married George Olexson in Wakaw Saskatchewan in 1936, lived in Val D'or Quebec and settled in Windsor Ontario in 1941. She was employed at Canadian Motor Lamp for over 35 years. Val will be forever remembered for her green thumb in the garden, and for her expertise in the kitchen wher she made THE BEST pickles, sauerkraut, perogies (pyrohy) and cabbage rolls, (holubtsi). Visiting at the WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME 1700 Tecumseh Rd., East on Tuesday January 6, 2009 from 9:30 am until time of Funeral Service at 11:30 am. Rt. Rev. Fr. Eugene Halitsky officiating.
