Was a student at Brennan before moving over to Walkerville. I was fortunate to see and speak often with Morrie later in life. I’ll remember him as a great guy, absolutely one of the “ coolest” teachers ever! R.I.P.

It was an honor caring for Morgan (Coach) and knowing him and Joan since he's lived at Heron Terrace. There will definately be a void without his presence there. This obituary was written beautifully and paints a picture of a good man who lived a full and beautiful life. May you rest in peace Coach, and my deepest sympathy to his family and the many people in his life.

Ken and I send our sympathy to the Gallagher family. Morrie was an important part of the Brennan community for many years.
His contributions as teacher and coach were much valued by his students and his colleagues. Morrie’s was very generous in sharing his time and talents with his students. The impact of these gifts will live on in the lives of many. Teachers and coaches tell stories and then become stories. Morrie will live on in many happy memories.

Morrie Gallagher was one of a kind. An outstanding football and basketball coach at Brennan CHS and post his teaching and coaching career Morrie was a no-nonsense and highly respected member of the Windsor and District Basketball Referees Association. Morrie was indefatigable and continued his almost unmatched career post his days at Brennan as the Athletic Director at Loyola Catholic HS in Detroit. Legions of former Brennan athletes and students were mentored by Morrie to their betterment as both grown men and women. Together Morrie and I enjoyed trips to see high school games in Michigan, especially those of our mutual and legendary coach and friend, Albert Fracassa of Brother Rice. To Joan the Gallagher Family please accept my most sincere condolences on the passing of Morrie. The Windsor-Essex educational and athletic community has lost a giant in our midst.

Very sorry to hear about Mr Gallagher. My 73 year old brother sent me this obituary, as Morrie was BOTH of our gym teachers at Brennan. I recall being in Mr Gallaghers geography class and he once told me after an answer…”oh you’re a smart ass eh? Well no bonus mark for a smart ass!” My twin brother loved it. “Ready ready…rest in peace!”

Autumn is when Brennan's football field shines. One walks by the Al McNamara rock and makes the trek toward the game. In the 70s Brennan's teams were led by Coach Gallagher, ably assisted by Mac and JHoff. Rivalries were intense between Brennan, Herman and Assumption, whose coaches, Godfrey Janisse and Jerry Philp were as familiar to fans as Schembechler or Hayes. I have known Coach for over 50 years. As a pup, I watched him coach the Cardinals to championships in'74 and '76. In 1978ish my sister had Coach as her religion teacher. I was stunned. I thought he was a football coach. During the 70s- early90s we were members of the Thursday Night Basketball Boys, me being the youngest by a good 20 years.
Our lives intersected later as I coached his granddaughter and taught his grandson.
Coach and Joan would go for nightly strolls and our paths would cross, usually at the little park on Villaire. They held hands.
Years on, it was a surreal coincidence to see that my mother and Coach were neighbors at Heron Terrace. It was there that I witnessed the incredible love between Coach and Joan. His room was festooned with Cardinal memorabilia and he brightened both staff and residents with his wit.
I enjoy taking my pug for small jaunts at the Brennan campus and back field. The field is uneven with a scary slope to it. There is a berm to the east, a lonely shed to the south, whose lock is rusted in the winter and only gains life during the Spring when Mr. Ouellette, who has the only key, oils it and unlocks it to grab the javelins. To the west, the maples stand proud. To the north, plenty of green only marred by the blasphemous scoreboard, which last functioned when Coach was at Loyola. To the sky, one can still hear Coach's "Ready Ready" command as a cardinal breezes by.
Thanks Coach.

Deepest condolences to Joan and family on their profound loss. Morrie was my teacher and coach at Brennan. Everyone has great memories of the triad of Al MacNamara, Jay Hoffman and Morrie Gallagher leading Brennan to numerous championships. I then had the immense honour of coaching track with him in the early 1980's. He was an outstanding teacher, a legendary football coach and a great hurdle coach. He was role model to hundreds of young men. Most importantly, he was most proud of being a husband and father.

Many fond memories with Morrie while attending Brennan, playing basketball on Thursday nights after graduating and enjoying a beer or two after those nights at Riverside Tavern and then refereeing with him and reminiscing.

Deepest condolences to the Gallagher family. Who could forget gym class at Brennan. There we were lined up in the gym waiting for attendance. Morrie, Coach Mac and J Hoff waiting in the wings like a rock band. Once the cheering and thunderous applause reach a crescendo only then will they enter the gym. Unforgettable. Rest in peace coach.

To Joan and the entire Gallagher family,
My deepest sympathy on the passing of Morrie. As so many people did, I felt a true kinship with Morrie. I would looked forward to the classroom visits when he would introduce himself to my students as the 'Inspector General of Ontario'. I loved his stories and enthusiastic recollection of his coaching and teaching days. Morrie was an inspiration to me. God speed my friend. You were one in a million!
Our prayers are with all of you,
Dave and Janet Greenwood

During my 4 years of schooling at FJ Brennan, I had the pleasure of being in the supportive teaching of the 3 most awesome men for the male gym program at the school. During one of the recent reunions of the school, I did give thanks to coach Morrie. I appreciate the leadership shared in those classes in the high school protocols - May his spirit be lifted and be at rest.

Coach was the reason I got into teaching and coaching. He so inspired me that my dream job would be able to follow in his footsteps and teach physical education at Brennan and coach basketball and football like he did. When he moved on from Brennan I had the honour of getting my dream job. Thanks Coach and keep your two buddies in line up there.

To Liam, Colleen, Joan & Family…
Having been a student at Brennan, Mr. Gallagher with his big smile, always stood out, such a captivating presence!
Ironically many years later, who would have thought my daughter, Alysha would become Liam’s
Best Friend, it really is a small world! Such a pleasure to become acquainted with “ the Gallagher Family”
on a deeper level, especially when I was able to join Morrie & Joan watching soccer games at Walkerville!
Resting now…after a memorable life!
With Peace… Debbie, Alysha & Carly

Mr. Gallagher was kind enough to put in a kind word for me back in 1991 with Mr. John Staley at St. Anne High School. It would be a job I would hold for 32 years. Always enjoyed my high years both as a student at Brennan and thanks to him, a teacher. Our condolences.
