Obituary of Ronald Edward Ellig

Ron passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024, at the age of 71, with his family by his side, after a brief battle with brain cancer. Loving husband of 39 years to Mary Ellig (Puhl). Devoted father to Sean Ellig (Amanda) and Jen Drouillard (Mark). Adored grandpa to Carter Ellig, Quinn Ellig and Bailey Drouillard. He will also be fondly remembered by Mark’s daughters Hannah Drouillard, Calista Drouillard and Ava Drouillard.

Predeceased by his parents Leonard (1987) and Nancy (2014). Survived by his twin brother Don (Brenda, 2015) and sister Patricia Tousignant (Edward, 2022). Ron is also survived by his brother-in-law John Puhl (Rose) and Peter Puhl (Dana). Predeceased by 3 of his nephews; Scott Tousignant (1972), Gregg Tousignant (2020) and Anthony Puhl (2024). Survived by his nieces and nephews Todd Tousignant (Cyndi), Brenda Ellig, Vanessa Puhl, Amy Puhl (Kyle) and Laura Puhl (Darren).

Ron was a devoted family man. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. It was rare that he missed a sporting event, concert or recital if his kids or grandkids were involved. From being a chaperone on Sean’s grade 8 graduation trip and coaching Sean in floor hockey, to all of Jen’s soccer, basketball and volleyball games into her University career, Ron was always there to support his children. When Carter and Quinn started playing soccer, you could catch him at the soccer fields on the sidelines cheering them on with pride. It is a shame that he won’t get to be that cheerleader for Bailey’s future events. Ron lit up at the sight of his grandchildren and it breaks our hearts that he won’t get to see them grow up.

Ron retired from Chysler after 31 years. Upon retirement, Ron loved to travel with Mary, particularly on cruises with their friends Doris & Daryl Weaver. Ron will be missed by his “Tim Hortons buddies” with whom he would sometimes visit twice per day. Ron was known for his gift of gab, and could talk to anybody who would listen. Above all, Ron was known for his generosity towards his friends and family. At any hour of the day, he would drop what he was doing for a friend or a family member in need. Ron was the dad who always picked Sean and Jen and their friends up at 2 in the morning after a night out, just to make sure everybody got home safely. A McDonald’s strawberry milkshake and a thank-you was all he ever wanted in return.

A special thank you to all of the staff and volunteers at Hospice of Windsor; as well as all of the PSWs and nurses that helped care for Ron during his illness.

Visitation for Ron will be held on Thursday January 2 from 2-5pm and 7-9pm at Windsor Chapel Banwell Location, 11677 Tecumseh Rd. E.
