Obituary of John Archie Gillies

GILLIES, John Archie 91 years. It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of a loving husband, father and grandfather on December 10, 2008 at Windsor Regional Hospital, Metropolitan Campus, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of 59 years to Isabel (nee Gillis). Loving and devoted father of Marilyn Chater (Mike), Pat Ord (Steve), Diane Kaus (Mike), John Gillies (Lee Ann), Murdock Gillies (Vary), Richard Gillies (Jackie), Jeff Gillies (Stephane), Jane Mallen (Don), and Kim Tomljenovic (Mat). Cherished grandpa to Jennifer (1996), Jessica, Shawn, Katie, Stephanie, Erica, Brendan, Ryan, Adam, Maggie, Drew, Ben, Mackenzie, Murdock, Colin, Elizabeth, Ceilidh, and Owen. Dear brother to Margaret Gillis and Flora Gillies. Predeceased by siblings Janie, Dan Willie, Mary, Murdock and Alec. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mr. Gillies was a retired Iron Worker with over 25 years of dedicated service. He served in WW II with the Governor General Footguards and was a Third Degree member of Knights of Columbus (Riverside) Council # 4924. Visitation at the WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 1700 Tecumseh Rd. E. on Thursday, December 11, 2008 from 7-9 p.m. and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Veterans Service will take place on Friday at 3:00 p.m. under the Auspices of the Windsor Veterans Memorial Service Committee. Parish Prayers Friday at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Services on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at 10:45 a.m. from the Funeral Home then to Most Precious Blood Church for Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be appreciated by the family. A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Johnson and the nursing staff on the 8th floor at Windsor Regional Hospital, Metropolitan Campus for their compassionate care shown to John and his family.
