Obituary of Manzoor Masih

Manzoor Masih, 70, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, August 14th, 2024, at the Windsor Regional Hospital with his family by his side.

Manzoor was born to Nawab Bibi and Arora Masih in Risalpur, Pakistan and he was the fourth of five children in the family.

Manzoor served as a faithful educator for most of his life personally helping and mentoring many students throughout his career. He encouraged his children to pursue advanced degrees and was often seen talking to students outside the classroom, encouraging them with inspirational stories from his personal life. Manzoor worked for the KPK (provincial) government for nearly thirty years and later moved to Lahore, where he taught as an Associate Professor of Physics at Forman Christian College for fifteen years before retiring in 2019.

Having experienced the transformational power of education in his own life, Manzoor fiercely advocated for education and equal access to schooling for everyone especially for low-income students in the Pakistani Christian community. His great legacy includes erecting a high school building that he built alongside his wife so unlike him, future generations of students in his hometown of Risalpur would have easier access to facilities of higher learning.

Manzoor was a kind and caring mentor throughout his teaching career and never missed an opportunity to offer guidance or words of wisdom to his students. Although he taught Physics in the classroom, he enjoyed reading books on English literature and history and encouraged his children and students alike to pick up reading as a hobby. He would gift books to many students as prizes for good academic performance in an effort to cultivate a culture of reading among his students.

Manzoor enjoyed his daily walks, reading, drinking chai, and stitching clothes. He beautifully styled and tailored many clothes for himself and his family and friends until the very last years of his life. Always well-dressed, Manzoor was often seen wearing a suit and his favorite Pashtun hat.

Lovingly known as “Baba”, Manzoor was a dear friend to many people around the world. His family and friends will remember him for his scholarship, integrity, positivity, strength of character, discipline, wisdom, kindness, and his indomitable spirit.

Through his many contributions to teaching, consistent hard work and strong faith, Manzoor leaves behind a great legacy in the field of education and true Christian faith. He lived his life loving God and loving others, serving all those around him with compassion and kindness.

Manzoor was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 41 years, Mussarat Manzoor; his daughter, Mahwash Manzoor; son-in-law, Taimoor Naseem; son, Salman Manzoor; daughters, Sheryl Manzoor and Faryal Manzoor; son-in-law, Timothy McMaster; grandchildren, Ethan and Charlotte; sister, Khurshid Bibi; and brothers, Aignal Masih and Farzand Masih  who will all continue to carry on his story.

A funeral service will be held for Manzoor at Banwell Community Church on September 28th at 12:30 pm with visitation an hour prior starting at 11:30 am. Interment will follow the service at Windsor Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
