Obituary of Lesley Askin
Lesley Dawn Askin (Yared)
Lesley Dawn was born in Windsor on a warm May day in 1949 and died on September 10 at her home surrounded by the love of her family.
Lesley was the absolutely cherished spouse of Jim Askin and the beloved daughter in law of the late Jim and Audrey Askin. From their first date in 1965 to her last breath, Lesley and Jim were inseparable. Her family was everything to her, and she will always be missed by her daughter Shelby and husband Andy Hager, son James and wife Alison, and son Chris and wife Brittany. She was immensely proud of her six amazing grandchildren - Simon, Genevieve, and Gareth Hager, and Jared, Laine, and Claire Askin.
Lesley was the daughter of the late Maurice and Irene Yared, and the big sister to Janis Barlow and her husband Bob, and Allyson McKrow and her husband Tom. She was a most special aunt to Ainsley McKrow and Daniel Barlow.
Lesley worked as a laboratory technologist at Hotel Dieu hospital for 37 years, where she worked with countless patients and made lifelong friends, but that was only a small part of her story. Lesley was funny, creative, intelligent, artistic, strong, and one hell of a cook. She loved to read, couldn’t really golf, didn’t like to bake, and had a fondness for goofy little cars and silly cats. She and Jim enjoyed travelling, going to the theatre, attending basketball games, dining with friends, and cheering on the Detroit Lions. But more than anything, she loved her friends and her family with an intensity that would blow your mind.
We, her family, extend our most heartfelt thanks to those doctors and nurses and support
workers in hospital and at home who made it possible for us to laugh, and cry, and laugh some more with her in the days before her death. We are grateful for the million kindnesses shown to her and to us by so many during this time.
Hospice of Windsor made our lives better during these days, and so we ask for donations to them in memory of Lesley.
In accordance with Lesley's wishes, cremation has taken place.
