Obituary of Malkiat Singh Dhami
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Comrade Malkiat Singh Dhami, our cherished BabaJi, who departed peacefully at Windsor Regional Hospital Metropolitan campus surrounded by his beloved family on Sunday, August 18, 2024. He was 89 years old, having fought a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Malkiat Singh Dhami was born on June 14, 1935 in the village of Kawanwali, Chak 177, Punjab, Pakistan to Bhagat Singh and Rao Kaur. His early years were marked by great strife as the partition of India occurred and caused large-scale loss of life and an unprecedented migration. He traveled from his hometown with nothing but the clothes on his back to a new independent India. His fearless spirit and unwavering dedication led him to join many just causes where his faith and fortitude were tested time and again. He was even imprisoned multiple times by the authorities while championing justice, yet he remained steadfast and unshaken in his resolve. Never did he waver from his beliefs of equality, justice and freedom.
Malkiat Singh Dhami’s life was a testament to his deep faith in God, his unyielding sense of justice and deep belief that true equality is possible. His life was enriched by his unwavering love for his family and his profound impact on all who met him. His bravery in the face of adversity will forever inspire us. This spirit of resilience embodied his entire life.
Malkiat Singh Dhami is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Mohinder Kaur Dhami, and their children Gurdial Singh Dhami, Sarbjit Kaur Athwal and Amarjit Singh Dhami. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his grandchildren Avneet Kaur Dhami, Sejal Kaur Dhami, Pavandeep Singh Athwal, and Kulneet Kaur Athwal. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the medical teams at Windsor Regional Hospital Metropolitan Campus as well as Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare Dr. Y Emara Centre for Healthy Aging and Mobility for their compassionate care.
In honoring his memory, we take solace in his teachings and the indelible mark he has left on our hearts. In his own words, “Change is inevitable.” As we bid farewell to Baba Ji, we find comfort in knowing that he moves within the circle of God’s Protection, ever-present in our hearts and lives.
