Obituary of Kata "Kathy" Lorkovich

LORKOVICH, Kata "Kathy" (nee Frketic)
October 16, 1926 - July 26, 2024

It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on July 26, 2024 at Windsor Regional Hospital, Metropolitan Campus, at the age of 97 years, surrounded by her loving family.
Reunited with her beloved husband Josip "Joe" (2006) with whom she shared 59 years of marriage. Loving and devoted mother to Marica "Mary" Sobol and late husband Vlado of Windsor, Mirica "Mira" Omura and husband Daniel of Toronto, and John Lorkovich and wife Fran of Tecumseh. Cherished Baba to Paul Sobol (Ivana Voltic), Michelle Omura (Onofrio Pannunzio), Joseph Sobol (Dawn), John Omura, Michael Lorkovich (Jessica), and Mikayla Lorkovich. Dear great-grandmother to Abigail, Madeline, Luca, Leo and Mate. Predeceased by her parents Bara and Janko Frketic and brother Marko (1993). Much loved sister-in-law of the late Ana, Katica, Zorka, Nevenka, Maca, Barka and Dragica. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, kumovi and relatives in Canada, Croatia, USA and Australia.

Kata was a retired employee of GM Trim Plant with many years of dedicated service. A faithful parishioner at St. Francis of Assisi Croatian Catholic Church, Kata rarely missed a Saturday evening mass and was devoted to a life of prayer. She was passionate about gardening, cooking and baking, especially her zvjezdice cookies. Kata and Josip were happiest surrounded by family and friends enjoying traditional Croatian food and music. She will be held dearly in the hearts of all who knew her. 

A heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Village of Aspen Lake for their kind and compassionate care. We are truly grateful, and Kata loved you all. A special thank you to Dr. Laura Voltic and so many wonderful health care professionals for their kindness and expertise.

Visitation at Windsor Chapel (Central chapel) 1700 Tecumseh Rd. E. 519-253-7234 on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 from 2-5 pm and 7-9 pm. Parish prayers at 4:30 pm. Funeral service on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at 9:45 am in procession to St. Francis of Assisi Church for Funeral Mass at 10:30 am. Entombment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy and to honour Kata's life, memorial donations may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Church Building Fund, or Zupa Novigrad Na Dobri in Croatia, or Windsor Regional Hospital Foundation (Palliative Care Unit).
