Obituary of John Gilbert Cowie

John Gilbert Cowie, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away on July 18, 2024, at the age of 73. He was born on October 25, 1950, in Montreal.

Family was everything to John, and he adored his wife of 42 years, Linda. They built a beautiful life together and raised three children: Andrea (Tom), Tamara (Steve), and Michael (Seung Hee). His love for his grandchildren, Sam, Jett, Abigail, Evelyn, and Brianna, knew no bounds. John is also survived by his four brothers Chris, Bill (Vivian), Andy (Carole), and Jim (Galina), his sister Joanne (Kirk), many nieces and nephews, cousins and a wide circle of friends. Dear brother-in-law to Wanda (Ray), Nevin (Kristina), the late Jason (Trina) and Anthea (Barry). John will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the love and light he brought into the lives of those he touched.

He was Vice President at Tri-way Manufacturing Technologies Corp., making significant contributions during his more than 30 years with the company. John was a man of many accomplishments and passions. One of his proudest achievements was cycling across Canada, a testament to his determination and adventurous spirit. His adventurous nature also took him on many travels around the world, including moving his young family to New Zealand, further illustrating his bold approach to life. 

Thoughtful, intelligent, and fun-loving, John endeared himself to all who knew him. His introspective nature and warm heart left an enduring impression on everyone he met. He found joy in the simplest pleasures, whether listening to music, cutting up the dance floor or creating memories with friends and family in Puerto Vallarta, one of his favorite destinations. John had a special passion for baseball, as a coach and a dedicated Toronto Blue Jay's fan.

The family would like to thank the staff, nurses, and doctors of the 4th floor oncology unit at Windsor Met Hospital and at the Leamington Hospice for all their dedicated care and compassion.

Family and friends are invited to gather at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home – Banwell Location, 11677 Tecumseh Rd. E., for memorial visitation on Friday, July 26, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the Chapel Service at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in John's memory.
