Obituary of Andrzej Markowski

Andrzej Markowski passed away peacefully on July 3, 2024, following a brief illness. Born on March 20, 1939, in Lwów, Poland, to Tadeusz and Stefania, Andrzej's life was marked by dedication, intellect, and love. He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 60 years, Anna Markowska, and their children, Maria Sawicki (Przemyslaw Chris) and Aleksandra Deegan (Robert). He was the cherished “Dziadzia” (Grandpa) of Peter (Marissa), Thomas, Anna (Logan), Martin, and Suzie.

Andrzej earned his PhD and served as a faculty member at Wroclaw Polytechnic before moving to the USA. There, he enjoyed a fulfilling career as a professor of mechanical engineering at Minnesota State University, where he passionately mentored countless students. Upon retirement, Andrzej and Anna relocated to Canada to be closer to family. An avid reader and WW2 history enthusiast, Andrzej also loved sailing, photography, nature, travel, and sports. In his later years, he developed a deep interest in genealogy, writing vivid accounts of his family's history. Known for his gentleness, patience, and kindness, Andrzej always placed his family at the heart of everything he did. His memory will be forever cherished.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 pm on July 6, 2024, at Holy Trinity Church (1035 Ellis St E, Windsor, ON). Interment will follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery. Arrangements Entrusted to WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME – Banwell Chapel (519-253-7235)
