Obituary of Magdalena Busch (nee Bohn)

Magdalena Busch (nee Bohn) entered into God’s rest on June 3, 2024 at 90 years old with family by her side.

She is predeceased by her husband Frank (1985).  Beloved mother of Frank Busch and Annemarie (Thomas) Fei.  Loving Oma to Paul (Jenn) Busch, Eric (Korine) Busch, Adam Busch, Michael Busch, Kyle (Madel) Busch, Naomi (Peter) Farjo, Alethea (Jacob) Chiang and Andrew Fei.  Great Oma to Calem, Abby, Jacob, James, Joseph and Levi.  Predeceased by her beloved sister Anna Devuyst.

Magdalena was born May 28, 1934 in Dolatz, Romania.  Her family were farmers, and she described the land as beautiful and abundant.  Diligence was built into her nature, she recounted her grandmother teaching her how to wake up early to collect kindling, feed livestock and help with planting, harvesting, and cooking.  With an age gap of 7 years, she loved caring for her younger sister, Anna.  She was so proud of her.

Before the war, she attended school at a convent and developed the love of learning.   She worked hard to be the top of her class.  She met her husband, Frank, when he was walking down the village street whistling and saw her sweeping the porch.  “He thought I would make a good wife” she recalls.  It’s easy to see why – if you look at her pictures, she is stunning.  They were married and their son Frank was born in Romania.  The family moved to Canada in 1961 and Annemarie was born shortly after.

In Scarborough, Canada, Magdalena worked as a seamstress and bookkeeper.  Her attention to detail, diligence, and artisanship were clear in these jobs.  She set the best example of a working woman – she loved her family, her house was spotless, she always had a delicious meal on the table, and she brought home a paycheck.

In 1974 the family bought a fruit farm in Jordan Station.  Through her husband’s illness and death, she maintained the farm with daughter and son.  As the family expanded, she cared unconditionally for her grandchildren, whom she adored.  When Annemarie moved to Windsor with her young family, she moved to help.  She has stayed in Windsor ever since.

In Windsor, she became a beloved member of the community and an important member of the church.  She represented all the culture and strength of her heritage and absorbed all the new ways of her grandkids, friends, and fellow Christians.  She brought her talents of farming, sewing and cooking to everyone she knew. She had the ability to immediately endear herself to anyone who met her.  She was well known as everyone’s Oma.

Most importantly, through her entire life, especially illness, Oma walked with God.  She told us her grandmother taught her to leave everything in God’s hands – “Alles in Gottes Hand.”  She said, “Even as a child, I truly, deeply loved God.”  She gradually grew to know Christ as a living person in her, learning to converse freely in prayer and worship in freedom and thankfulness.  It was clear at the end of her walk with the Lord, she knew Him, saw His Church, and stood with His people and purpose.

Oma, you will be deeply missed.  Your love, diligence, and beauty are unmatched.  Your talents are irreplaceable.  But most of all, your stand in Christ is our encouragement and testimony into eternity.  Thank you for everything.

Cremation has taken place.  Memorial visitation will be held at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home (South Chapel), 3048 Dougall Avenue (519-253-7236) on Saturday, June 8, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. to the time of the Memorial Service at 3:00 p.m. "Heartfelt thanks to the teams at Windsor Regional Cancer Center, St. Elizabeth's Health Care, and family physician Dr. Botrous.
