Obituary of Morris John Reed

On February 22, 2024, Morris John Reed wrote the final chapter of his life in Windsor, Ontario. He left us peacefully while holding the hands of his beloved daughter, Beverly Grace Reed, and former wife, Ruth Taylor. He was 72 years old. John was predeceased by his parents, Morris Benns and Ethel May Reed (Hart), his older brother Robert George Reed, sister-in-law Madeleine Montgomery Reed and brother-in-law Ed Boudreau. John is survived by his daughter Beverly Grace Reed of Calgary, Alberta, and his sisters Joan (Robert) Lippens of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Margaret Reed (Ed Boudreau) of Tilbury, Ontario. He will be missed by his many nieces and nephews and their children. John built strong lifelong friendships, sharing music and memories while staying in touch with friends until the end. John inherited a love of the earth from his youth, working in the family greenhouses and florist business. This love carried through to his early career as a market gardener and, in the following years, operating a sheep farm with his wife Ruth and daughter Bev in Sundridge, Ontario. He came of age in the 60’s, having lived his teenage years in turbulent times, John was a free spirit who lived an adventurous life. Starting as a ski jumper in his teens, working across Canada as a sous chef in mining camps, hopping trains, living on the beach in Hawaii, and attending many outdoor concerts, John enjoyed life on his own terms. Music was a central thread throughout John’s life. He was an avid Bob Dylan fan to the end. An interment of his ashes and celebration of John’s life will be held this May in Magnetawan, Ontario. Details are not yet confirmed. Arrangements entrusted to Windsor Chapel - Banwell Chapel (519-253-7235).
