Obituary of Frances M. Peters

Passed away peacefully on Saturday Feb 24, 2024 at 92 yrs. Loving wife to Mike (2011) husband of 61 years. She leaves sons Robert (Mary Jeanne) and Michael (Arla). Proud grandmother of Robert Jr.(Kathy), Diana (Lance Spicer), Carolyn (Simon Mercier-Gagne), Michael, and Jaclyn (Dan Jones). Gran Gran of Asa, Lou, James, Nathan and Noah. She was the daughter of John (1957) and Frances Burns (1988), who immigrated to Canada from Bailieborough, County Cavan, Ireland. John F Burns Dry Goods store was located near Pillette Rd on Wyandotte St. from 1921 to 1964. Younger brother John Robert Coote Burns (1957). Sister Iris Brown (2023) and James (1991). Dear Sister-in-law of Rose Barsona (1998) and Tony (1947), Wilfred (1994) and Juliet (1997), George (1974) and Mary Jean (1983), Marie Rice (2015) and Joseph (1986), Tony (2023) and Dorothy (2007), Jennie Dunn (2013) and Charles (1980), Louis (2019) and Madeleine, Gladys Hebert and Donald (1994), John (2011) and Joan. Frances worked alongside Mike at 'Mike Peters Limited' for 60+ years and was an essential part of the team. Frances was very proud to have attended the July 1936 unveiling of the Canadian National Vimy Memorial in France with her family and returned to Vimy with Robert and Mary Jeanne to attend the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge, April 9, 2017 honoring her father's service at Vimy in WWI. Frances also visited Ireland to see where her family roots were. These trips were major highlights in Frances' life along with many other travels around the world. She also enjoyed her annual trips to Florida for Christmas and March break. Growing up on the Detroit River, Frances was a strong swimmer, a good water skier until age 75 and enjoyed boating. She attended Walkerville High School. Her passion in her youth was to race boats where she met her husband. She also was an avid fan of unlimited hydroplane racing, attending years of races in Detroit and other cities around the US. Frances loved the outdoors taking meticulous care of her yard. She was also a volunteer for many years for the Kiwanis Music Festival, a great baby sitter, chauffeur extraordinaire and driver instructor for all the grandchildren. In accordance to Frances wishes, cremation has taken place. A family celebration of life will be held at a later date in the summer months, please continue to check for updates at windsorchapel.com. At the families request donations would be appreciated to Windsor-Essex Therapeutic Riding Association (WETRA) or Kiwanis Music Festival Windsor-Essex County.
