Dear Mary Louise, Julia, Teah and family:
I'm writing on behalf of the Canadian Gas Association and its members - it was a shock to many to hear the sad news of John's death. It is not an exaggeration to say that he was certainly a leading expert on gas measurement in Canada, a very effective and brilliant ambassador for the entire natural gas industry, but first and foremost an exceptionally kind, patient, caring, and funny man. His love for his family was well-known to his industry and government colleagues.
John takes with him a great deal of knowledge and expertise, but, through his interactions with colleagues in industry and government, much of that knowledge has been passed along and remains - this is a credit to his generosity and patience, and his dedication and hard work.
He was a long-standing Chair and member of CGA's Measurement Committee and was always a delightful and positive leader in the context of industry meetings and during sometimes difficult discussions with Measurement Canada.
On behalf of the entire natural gas industry across Canada, we express our condolences to Mary Louise, Julia, and Teah, and to John's entire family. May he rest in peace, and may all who loved him experience consolation.

Mary Louise, Julia and Teah, Mary, Lyna and Karin, my deepest condolences to all of you. John was a light in my memories of visiting the Kiviste family in Eagenville. I remember jiving in your family living room, lots of laughs and pure fun. Then when he moved to Windsor, he stayed with Bruce and I for a brief two weeks before finding his first apartment here. Such a special brother. I remember too, Mary, your stories of how much work he had done on the family cottage. We were so fortunate to have spent some time there and to feel the beauty of Golden Lake and your family cottage.
I am thinking of each of you, as you try to understand this sudden loss. My heart goes out to you,
Love Andi xo

Dear Mary Louise, Julie and Teah, I am sorry and saddened to hear of John's passing. I have very good memories of John who well represented the natural gas industry during our time together on various government-industry workgroups at Measurement Canada. I admired John's keen knowledge and his gracious, pleasent, and collaborative nature. At our many meetings, John fondly enjoyed sharing about his love of family and summers cottaging at Golden Lake, which makes me think of him every time we drive through the Golden Lake area. May John rest in peace in God's merciful love, and may God bless you with much faith, strength and consolation. Deacon Guy Dacquay, Ottawa (retired - former Utilty Metering Division, Measurement Canada)

"Mary Louise, Julie and Teah, I had the pleasure to work with John for many years. Thinking back, there is not one bad memory but so many that come to mind that bring a smile to my face. I still remember being on a plane to Ottawa with him and how happy he was that I got Daryl Sittler to sign his boarding pass for Teah. When on business trips, John always talked about you three with that silly grin on his face, obviously he love you all very much. He had a wonderful sense of humour and a huge heart. My deepest condolences to you all.

John Kiviste was so much more than my best friend in high school. He was a role model for the way he lived and how he treated others. I don't think in all the years I Knew him, he ever uttered a critical word about anyone. He was an incredibly gifted athlete, who excelled in any sport he attempted. He lit up any room he entered with his presence. His good looks and charm made a lot of us envious back in the day. He loved learning how to build and create things from his dad, Arvo, who was so far ahead of his time as an artist, designer, and architect. J.K. as he was commonly known to myself, was one of the three amigos, along with good friend, Garry Wickens and I. Many special times were shared together. John had an incredible love for his family, his wife, and daughters.
My most sincere sympathy to all. He was one of a kind.

John and I crossed paths many times over our years at work, and I can definitely say he one of the steadiest and most upbeat people I have known. He had a positive aura around time that was a joy to feel.
Deepest sympathies to your family, John, and to those lucky enough to have known you.

Nothing can change the fact that he was taken too soon.
I was lucky enough to have had the pleasure of working with John for many years as a supplier to Union Gas. Over time, we became friends and often talked about what was happening with our families.
John took great pride in his family and his job and the respect he earned from others said a lot about his as a person. His glass was always half full! So many memories.....
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. for you.

I was so saddened to hear of John's passing. I first met John in high school when we travelled by bus to represent our school by playing on basketball and volleyball teams. In recent years we renewed our friendship at Golden Lake where our cottages were 8 doors apart. John was such a pleasant lad and I enjoyed our chats. He will be missed. Please accept our sincere condolences.

Jack and I are saddened to learn of John's passing. We looked forward to our chats on the road at the cottage whenever he and Mary Louise were out on their Island View walks. Jack worked with John's dad, Arvo, on projects in Eganville back in the day, and Mary Louise & I shared books and a few glasses of wine on our deck over the years we've come to know the Kivistes. All good memories. Keeping Mary Louise, Julia and Teah, and all Kiviste families in our hearts and thoughts at this difficult time.
