Obituary of Otello Todon

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Otello on Thursday, October 19th, 2023 at the age of 73 years. Survived by loving spouse Audrey Todon with whom shared 40 years of marriage. Cherished children Sarah (Chris) Overton and Giancarlo (Veronica) Todon. Beloved Nonno to Theodore and Cecilia. Brother to Luciano (Lynda) Todon, and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Cousin to family across Canada and Italy.

Otello immigrated to Canada from Udine, Italy with his mother Maria, father Duilio and his brother Luciano in 1953 and they eventually made their way to Windsor, ON. Duilio built a house on Elliot St. in Windsor’s own Little Italy where Otello made lifelong friends. His many stories of growing up with his Erie Street crew entertained anyone who was lucky enough to hear them over a cup of coffee or a glass of red wine.

Otello met his partner in crime Audrey in 1973 and the two spent 50 years together. The two built a home and life together on Jarvis Ave.
 

Otello always made others feel welcome and included. An extra seat was always ready and waiting at the table for whoever showed up for dinner. He truly extended his heart and his home to everyone.
 

A lifelong Detroit Lions fan and eternal optimist, he could be found spending Sunday afternoons dreaming of a win.
 

Otello was the most wonderful father, there was no problem he couldn’t solve and nothing broken that couldn’t be fixed. The hours spent at the ball diamond or in the arena may not have produced Olympians, but it created lasting memories.
 

He found his true calling though as a Nonno, spending afternoons taking his grandchildren to the park or swimming in the pool, or on rainy days making endless bowls of popcorn and watching movies.

Otello’s presence touched everyone he ever encountered. We were blessed with many wonderful years, full of laughter, love, and warm embraces. The stories we tell and the memories we keep will carry on his legacy.

Memorial visitation will be held at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home - Banwell Chapel 11677 Tecumseh Road E. (519-253-7235) on Tuesday, October 24th, 2023 from 2-5pm and 7-9pm.
