Obituary of Joseph Molnar

We are sad to say goodbye to a Freedom Fighter. In 1956 Joe Molnar fought Russian tanks in the streets of Budapest. Now he's finished fighting & is at peace.

JOSEPH MOLNAR was born August 1, 1936 in Csakvar, Hungary, and passed away in Windsor, October 9, 2023. Joe experienced hard years growing up in wartime and then living in a communist country. When he was 20, he was able to come to Canada as a refugee. Employment was provided in the gold mines north of Red Lake, ON. In 1967 he left the life of a miner & found work in Windsor in his tool trade & then in the auto plants of Chrysler until his retirement in 2001.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years Mary (Stewart), and his precious daughters Christa and Sheri. He is predeceased by his parents Joszef and Eszter (Halasz), his twin brother Sandor and wife Margit, and sister Eva and husband Joszef Csakany. Nieces and nephews still live in Hungary.

Joe's life was one of work, along with family pastimes that gave him enjoyment. He created winter wonderlands in the backyard for children to enjoy. Joe enjoyed cooking gulyás over an outdoor fire or chicken paprikas for supper which were regular events. Sharing some Tokaji with longtime friend Ron made him happy. As he was a fan of all Canadian athletes, he loved sporting events on TV. Long walks with his buddy Maddox then Duke filled retirement days along Little River trails. He was an expert Sudoku player due to hours of practice. Construction of the Gordie Howe Bridge will have to proceed without his constant surveillance.

Family and Friends are invited to gather for a memorial visitation at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home – Banwell Location on Saturday, October 14, 2023 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a private family gathering at a later date. Cremation has taken place. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Ukrainian Immigrant Aid Society (CUIAS) or the Windsor & Essex County Humane Society would be appreciated. Online condolences may be left at www.windsorchapel.com.
