I just learned recently about your loss. I am so sorry for you all. He was so young.
David was my first cousin. I was closer in age to his brother Freddy, so I knew Fred better than David. My brother Chris was closer to David. At family gatherings, Fred and I spent much of our time trying to get away from the younger kids (David, my brother, Chris, and sister, Karen) who BOTHERED US to no end!!! But they followed us around relentlessly.
We five cousins spent some time together at the cottage Grandpa Dickens built at Sauble Beach. There was no electricity, running water or indoor toilet. But we pumped water from the artesian well, went to the out house and enjoyed the light of laterns in the evening. Nana and Papa would take us to the beach to jump on trampolines so we would be too tired to bother them much at night! We had a lot of fun there.
After my mother -- David's Aunt Margaret -- died, we didn't get to Windsor as much. So, sadly, we didn't get to see our cousins.
However, I had a chance to catch up with David and meet his wife Daniella and children, Danielle, Nicole and Kenny, when I visited Aunt Helen a few years before her death. I believe Danielle had a little boy... Noah? Sorry I am not sure I remember his name. Then David and Danielle spent the night with us in Georgia when they were on the way to Disney World in Florida with Nicole and Kenny. We so enjoyed that visit. As I recall, Kenny spent most of his time out in the yard playing with our dogs! He reminded me of his grandfather.
I have tried to find you all to maintain contact but I think David and Danielle must have moved. My other Windsor cousins have tried to find you all. I would love to hear from you. I've done a lot of research on the Dickens family tree that I would love to share with you all. My email address is kmtcason@gmail.com if you'd like to contact me.
Again, I am saddened by the loss of my cousin and hope you all enjoy the wonderful memories you had with him. I'm glad he lived a good life.

BTW, I've let my brother and sister know about David's death. All of us are so sorry for your loss.

Heartfelt condolences to the family and dear friends of this great guy. Dave and I met in grade school upon being introduced by our mutual good friend, Mark Lalovich. Dave was a good athlete and possessed a wonderful sense of humor. I have many fun-filled memories of high school parties, camping trips, playing baseball in Kingsville and hanging-out at the Cedar Beach clubhouse with mutual friends. I am very saddened to hear of Dave's passing but very glad to hear that he had a good life and was well-loved by so many.

Dave and I grew up during the 1960's and 1970's in Windsor. We knew each other as kids but became good friends during high school at Kennedy Collegiate. You might even have called us partners in crime - the innocent kind. Windsor was a great place to be a teenager in the 1970's and we had a lot of great times together. Sometimes with our crew of buddies and sometimes just me and Dave hanging out. We would always get the munchies, and Dave came up with the well remembered phrase: "Hey dude, got any of Aunt Mary's chocolate chip cookies?' And my Aunt Mary was only too happy to bake as many of these cookies as we and the crew could eat. The hangout was at 1524 VIctoria Ave and occasionally we would also head over to the Rickshaw restaurant for some delicious garlic ribs in black bean sauce.
Back in those days, there photo ID's were rare, so it was easy for us with our fake ID to get into clubs and taverns. Dave was gentle guy, but he was also tough and strong. Anyone who would challenge him to a fight would very quickly come to regret it. Dave, though, would never start the fight.
I remember him as a sweet, thoughtful guy with a great sense of humor and playfulness, who also enjoyed discussing philosophy. The picture posted of him in the bottom left is the high school Dave that was my good friend. However, The picture of him in the kitchen was the Dave I knew - silly, fun loving, and a family man.
My heart goes out to his family and friends. God bless you Dave - may we be friends forever.

Dave – You were an outstanding member of the Windsor Central 1972 Senior Little League Canadian Championship Team. You were our best all around athlete, centre fielder, and offensive threat at the plate. We are grateful to have shared time and memories together with you during the past year. Visits at your home with Daniella, the 50th Anniversary gathering in October 2022, and the John Kaschak Memorial Tournament Opening Ceremony on Canada Day of this year, 2023, were opportunities to continue our friendships. RIP brother Dave.

Dear Dickens Family. We are so very sorry to learn of your huge loss and send our deepest consolences. My husband Terry and I met Dave several months back when Dave and I were both having our chemo treatments. We struck up a conversation with him and the hours of chemo passed so quickly We had such a great talk and knew many of the same people. His wonderful and positive attitude and love of his family was so evident. We felt like we knew him all our lives. We subsequently saw him at the hospital a few times after that initial meeting and he was always so friendly and happy. Heaven has gained a truly special person. Treasure all your beautiful memories, as I am sure you have many of them. With Warmest Regards, Darcie & Terry Patrick
