Obituary of Cletus Lewis

Cletus Stephenson Lewis was born on July 27th, 1947 at Bagotsville, West Bank Demerara, Guyana, South America to James Lewis and Delores Archer.

He was a member of the Guyana Defense Force and the Guyana Police Force for many years. In 1981 he migrated to the United States of America and eventually relocated to Canada where he pursued a career in corrections. Cletus served as a Corrections Officer with the Ministry of Corrections for many years before retiring in 2012 as Assistant Superintendent.

A militant man who took immense pride and dedication in his work, Cletus was well respected throughout his career, specifically in his role at the Toronto East Detention Centre and at the Windsor Jail where he formed many lasting and meaningful work relationships and friendships. His legacy throughout the Ministry will live on in the lives that he has touched, those that he has inspired and motivated, and those whom he took under his wings and guided along a path of success.

Mr. Lewis, fondly known as Chuck was known for his impeccable attire and physical presentation. He was a sharp dresser, easy on the eyes, as they would say; a charming man who effortlessly wooed many. It is this charm, among many of his other qualities, which created his most valued relationships; yielding his five children, Coleen, Samantha, Cletus Jr., Malika and Cassandra and nine grandchildren.

A loving Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Friend, Colleague, Mr. Lewis left a indelible mark wherever he went. His giant-like presence touched the hearts of many and he will forever be remembered for his kindness, his discipline, generosity and his love for family and friends. Although he will be missed by those who loved him most, we know that he is in the arms of the Lord, resting peacefully, free from pain and suffering and smiling down on us now. Rest in Peace our dearly Beloved. Rest in Perfect Peace!
