Obituary of Rejeanne (Jean) Lorraine Nantais (nee Marentette)

Jean (Marentette) Nantais, loving Mother and Meme, at the age of 91, embarked on her final destination, as she entered into her heavenly home, to spend eternity with our Lord Jesus Christ, on August 21, 2023.

Jean was born October 16, 1931 in Staples, Ontario on a beautiful vast farm to her parents Irene Marentette (nee Cote) (2011) born in Lowell, Massachusetts and Norman Marentette (1958) born in Staples, Ontario. Loving Mother to Denise Moreau (Guy), Bill (Sue Anne), Linda Barker (Brian), Brian (Suzanne). Loving Meme to Corrie, Kevin, Allycia, Billy, Tim, Ryan, Jordan, Lukas, Ross, Shane, Madeline and Eriq.  Great Meme to Milo, Melody, Logan, Austen, Aubrey, Emma, Charlee and Benjamin. Loving sister to Remi (2010) and wife Rosemarie (2020), Clement (2013) and wife Linda (2008), Donald (1968)  and wife Joan, Shirley Trudelle and husband Dan Mansel, the late Paul Trudelle (2000) and Stanley and wife Helen.  Also survived by many nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by the love of her life, Robert Fleming (1996). They shared the same passions of country music, dancing, bowling and travelling. Even though their time together was only 12 years, they had the happiest years together.

Jean was raised on a farm where she learned the value of hard work. She attended a one room schoolhouse in Staples. Then attended Tilbury high school, and left after Grade 10 to help on the farm.  Jean moved to Windsor at the age of 16, cleaned houses, and worked as a nanny in Windsor and Detroit. Later she was employed as a TV assembler for a company in Windsor. She was married in 1954 and raised her family in Windsor. Jean pursued her high school diploma while raising her children in Windsor. Jean volunteered at her church OLPH and attended bible study and a women’s prayer group. She also volunteered driving Cancer patients, then volunteered at Hotel Dieu Hospital on Ouellette Ave for 5 years in admitting and then the Gift shop. Jean loved to play Euchre, she was an avid golfer and golfed in 2 leagues, and later took up bowling. In her 50’s she worked at the Former Irene Hill dress shop, and also worked at Morris Sutton funeral home for 15 years. Her compassionate personality and loving spirit touched the lives of whoever she met. She was an amazing cook who loved to serve others and a passionate sports fan and attendee of all her children and grandchildren’s sporting events, especially loving baseball.  Jean resided at Seasons Retirement Village in Memory care for a short time. Her time spent there was full of fun, friends and they became her family. Thank you to the caring staff who made her time there so wonderful.  Also thank you to all the staff of the Complex care and Palliative care facility at Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare centre. Mom’s care was outstanding and appreciated.
