Obituary of Ivan Hookey
Ivan John William Hookey died peacefully at Windsor Regional Hospital (Ouellette Campus) on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 in Windsor, Ontario at age 79. Dear husband of 52 years to Terena (Tobin) Hookey; cherished father of Kimberly (Hookey) Charron, Kevin, and Kyla; proud poppa of Connor and Minuet Charron; dear brother of Ron (2001), Barb (Hookey) Gravelle, Bob (2017), Gale (2013), Greg (2013), and Mark. Ivan was born on January 26, 1944 in Strathroy, Ontario to Ronald and Dorothy (Jackson) Hookey. He and his wife Terena started raising their family in the Sarnia area before moving to Amherstburg and then to Windsor. Ivan retired from Sterling Marine Fuels at the age of 60, previously having worked at TD Bank, Ethel, Monsanto, and BCM/Canadian Oxy. His children remember their dad as a kind and loving father who loved to fish, cross country ski, and laugh with them, and was known for entertaining his kids and grandkids by balancing them on his feet. At first an avid hunter, Ivan hung up his gun decades ago to shoot with the camera instead. Always creative, Ivan was passionate about working with his hands, from art to building sheds. Indulging in many artistic media, he most often liked to paint, and studied with Robert Bateman and Larry Dyer. Ivan loved to cook, whether it was in the kitchen or at the BBQ. A gymnast in his high school days, Ivan coached gymnastics in the Sarnia area, as well as baseball, and kept up an interest in fitness. As a caring neighbour, Ivan was always ready to lend a hand, mow a lawn, or shovel a driveway.
Visitation is on Tuesday, August 8th from 10-11am at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home South Chapel at 3048 Dougall Avenue, followed by the funeral at 11am. Reception will follow. All are welcome to celebrate Ivan’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to The Heart and Stroke Foundation. CLICK HERE
