Obituary of Hiny Yacoub
Hiny Yacoub, née Youkhanna, lived a beautiful 100 years and passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on June 8, 2023.
Hiny was born on February 23, 1923, to Shamoon and Wardia, née Jouna, Youkhanna, in the small village of Araden in northern Iraq. She married Youhanna Yacoub and the couple had 9 children together before Youhanna passed away in 1966.
Seeking a better life for her children, the family journeyed from Iraq to Italy, eventually immigrating to Windsor, Ontario, in 1981.
Hiny was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening with her daughters Kelly, who passed on in 2016, and Evlin. She loved taking walks around the neighborhood and cooking traditional Iraqi meals for her family.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Yacoub and Susan Yacoub, Amina and Enwiya Enwiya, Gabriel and Ginetta Yacoub, Rose and Fouad Yousif, Evlin Yacoub, Andy and Aieda Yacoub, Nabila Yacoub and Nadia Yacoub.
Her grandchildren affectionately referred to her as “Toto.” John, Sinan (Janelle), Jivan, Julie, Ramis (Jessica), Rami (2000), Jina, Gabe (Linda), Sara (Armand), Michael, Natasha (Nick), Christopher (Amber), Sandoval (Athraa), Andrewval, Rachell, Louie Jr (Inda), and Emon (Justin). Also survived by 19 great grandchildren.
The family deeply appreciates the hospice care Hiny received, especially by nurses Megan and Marissa.
Hiny was the matriarch of the Yacoub family and a loved and respected woman in the community. She will forever be remembered for filling our hearts with love from her cozy home.
