Obituary of Antonio Bortolin
Antonio Bortolin
November 27, 1929 - June 3, 2023
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Antonio Bortolin on Saturday, 3 June 2023, at the age of 93, at Windsor Regional Hospital - Met campus, after a brief illness. Antonio leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 54 years Caterina (nee De Stefano), and sons Dino Bortolin (Huiling) and Roger Bortolin (Sheila). Loving Nonno to grandchildren Pamela, Daniel and Melanie. Antonio also leaves behind brother Angelo Bortolin (Rita) of Windsor, and many nieces and nephews. Antonio was predeceased by his parents Domenico and Anna Bortolin, sister Vittoria Bortolin and husband Lorenzo, sister-in-law Maria Pignanelli and husband Vincenzo, and sister-in-law Saveria Carpino and husband Domenico. Since emigrating from Prata di Pordenone, Italy to Windsor, ON in 1959, he worked hard to provide for his family including working in construction before being employed by Chrysler Canada at the assembly plant in Windsor. Since retiring in 1990, Antonio spent every waking hour busy with his many hobbies including taking care of his backyard garden vegetables and fruit trees, and making wine and salami every fall. He was a contributing member of the Fogolar Furlan Club and enjoyed taking part in club activities. He enjoyed repairing anything that broke and fashioning solutions to problems, often only with basic materials at hand. He and Caterina also enjoyed many trips together during the early part of his retirement. A man of seemingly endless energy, he was active and busy his entire life as anyone that knew him would attest. Only very recently in his long life was he slowed down by the effects of age and dealing with several health issues. We thank the doctors and nurses at Met for their care, and now are comforted that Antonio’s suffering is over and he is at rest. If you desire, donations to Windsor Regional Hospital WRH Foundation or your favourite charity in his name would be appreciated. A private reception for close family will be held immediately after the internment. Visitation to be held at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home (Central Chapel) 1700 Tecumseh Rd. E (519-253-7234) on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 from 9:30 am to the time of the funeral service in the Chapel at 10 am. Entombment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery.
