Obituary of Henryk Sylwester Klamut

KLAMUT, Henryk S. Passed away peacefully, on March 2, 2008 surrounded by his loving family at Windsor Regional Hospital, Metropolitan Campus at the age of 86 years. Loving and devoted husband of 57 years to Katarzyna. Dear father of Michael Klamut, Henry Klamut and wife Susie, and Mary Anne Dzialoszynski and husband Tomasz. Cherished dziadziu of Andrew, Kristyn, James, Julian, Paulina, Michael, and Natalie. Predeceased by loving sisters Isabella, Cecilia, and Maria. Born on December 9, 1921 in Kroscienko Wyzne, Poland. Forced from his homeland in Poland to Siberian work camps in the U.S.S.R. in 1940. Released on amnesty and joined the Polish Army in Russia on February 10, 1942. His unit crossed the Russian-Persian border and came under British command in the Middle East on August 15, 1942. He was posted to the 11th Rifle Battalion in the Middle East on October 27, 1942; then to the 14th Rifle Battalion on March 12, 1943. He landed in Italy with his unit on February 16, 1944 and took part in operations at Monte Cassino, Ankona and Bolonia. He was awarded the Polish Cross for Valour, Army Medal and Cross of Monte Cassino as well as the British 1939/1945 Star, Italy Star, and the British Defence Medal. Came to Canada in 1948 and worked for 2 years in Manitoba to fulfill immigration requirements. Settled in Windsor in 1950. He was a long term employee of Canadian Bridge of Windsor and retired from Chrysler Canada as an Industrial Mechanical Millwright. Past Komendant of the Polish Veterans Assosiation, Pl. 126, and a lifelong member of Canadian Legion and Polish Ex-Combatants Association in Great Britian (SPK). Past president of the Polish People's Home Association (Dom Polski) and enjoyed a lifelong involvement with the Polish Community in Windsor. A special thank you to Dr. Mathews, Dr. Hirmiz, Donna Danellon, nurses and staff at Windsor Regional Cancer Centre. A heartfelt thank you to nurses Agnes, Judy, Marcella and all the staff at Metropolitan Hospital. Visitation at WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 1700 Tecumseh Rd. E. on Friday, March 7, 2008 from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Legion prayers 7:30 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. Funeral Services on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at 10:15 a.m. from the Funeral Home then to Holy Trinity Polish Church for Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Interment Heavenly Rest Cemetery.
