Obituary of Steve Bobaljik

BOBALJIK Steve Born on Sunday September 19, 1926 in Sremska Mitrovica, Yugoslavia. Steve passed away, embraced by the love of his family on Wednesday April 16, 2008 at the age of 81 years. Beloved husband and soulmate of 61 years to Juliana (nee Kuca). Dear Dad to Wayne Bobaljik and wife Electa; John Bobaljik and wife Judy, all of Windsor; and pre-deceased by his loving daughter and caregiver Laurie Finlay (April 8, 2007). Dear "Grampa" to Eric Bobaljik, and Dear "Deda" to Dean and Kara Finlay. Special father-in-law, and "Stevanavich" to Paul Finlay of Windsor. Dear brother of John Bobaljik and wife Nancy of Willowdale, Ont., and the late Helen Semack, and her late husband Leonard. Dear brother-in-law of the late Irene and George Ford. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews in Canada, the U.S.A., Slovakia and Yugoslavia. Steve's professional career was spent supplying the many fine contractors of our city with the concrete supplies that they required to build everything from the simplest of driveways, to homes and office buildings. His career spanned nearly 50 years, and began with the former Sterling Building Materials on Riverside Dr., East where he was proudly employed by Mr. Roy and Louis Merlo. Dad spoke fondly of his days at Sterling, reminiscing about pleasant days spent with co-workers such as Cec Fenn, Art Braithewaite and John Kappler, to name a few. Steve finished his career with the Red-D-Mix Company, and retired from Lafarge Ltd. In 1986. He was a member of the Heavy Construction Assosciation of Windsor. He came out of retirement briefly, to assist in the supervision of "The Big Pour" of the concrete foundation for what is now Casino Windsor. Steve will be remembered by his peers as a well respected man in the construction industry. We will miss his loving guidance, but we will never forget him. Our family would like to thank Dr. Jeff Dennison for his longtime patience and understanding; Dr. Martin McFarlane, Dr. Corrina Quan, and the late Dr. Rick Boyd, for enabling our dad to live more comfortably and actively during his senior years. Thanks also go to Dr. Dunaresq Child, Dr. Ciaran Sheehan, and all of the nurses and satff of the 3rd floor at WRHC-Western Campus, for their care and compassion in a difficult medium. Visiting at the WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME 1700 Tecumseh Rd., East on Friday April 18, 2008 from 2-5 & 7-9 p.m. Prayers Friday at 4:00 p.m. The family will receive friends on Saturday April 19, 2008 at Church of The Atonement (2940 Forest Glade Dr.) for visitation from 9:30 a.m until time of funeral mass at 10:30 am. Entombment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery. In kindness, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Online condolences and shared memories may be submitted at www.windsorchapel.com
