Obituary of Roman Tomasz Waszkiewicz

WASZKIEWICZ, Monsignor Roman It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Monsignor Roman Waszkiewicz, Pastor of Holy Trinity Parish in Windsor, Ontario, on March 21, 2009. He was born on November 16, 1959 in Zlotniki Kujawskie, Poland, to Maria and Feliks Waszkiewicz. In 1978, he entered the Seminary in Gniezno and was ordained a priest in 1984. For one year he worked as assistant in St. John the Baptist Parish in Pleszew, Poland. From 1985 to 1996, he studied and did pastoral work at the Rectorate of Polish Catholic Mission in France. In 1996 he was sent to Canada to work at the Holy Trinity Parish in Windsor, Ontario, as an assistant. Since 2003 he served as Pastor of Holy Trinity Parish and of St. Michael German Church in Windsor. During this short period he presided over the beautiful expansion and renovation of the historic Church building and the rejuvenation of the Polish Parish community. He was also involved in pastoral work for the French- Canadian youth in the city of Windsor. He is survived by his mother, two sisters, Aleksandra and Teresa, two brothers, Edmund and Zbigniew, many nephews and nieces. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and parishioners who will remember him for his loyalty, generosity and concern for the mission entrusted to him. Monsignor Roman Waszkiewicz will lie in state at HOLY TRINITY POLISH CHURCH, ( 1035 Ellis Street E. (at Langlois), on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 from 4 to 9 p.m. Parish prayers Wednesday at 8 p.m. Friends will be welcomed on Thursday March 26, 2009 at Holy Trinity Polish Catholic Church for visitation from 9:00 am until time of Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Celebrant Bishop Ronald Fabbro. Monsignor Roman will then continue his journey to his final resting place in Zlotniki Kujawskie, Poland, where a Funeral Mass will be held and burial to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Monsignor Roman Waszkiewicz Charity Fund.
