Obituary of Sr. Gloria Anne Drouillard
Sister Gloria Drouillard, SNJM
(Maria Assunta)
July 12, 1937 - September 28, 2026
Sister Gloria Drouillard, SNJM, entered eternal life on September 28, 2026, at the age of 89, supported by her SNJM community, family and friends.
Gloria was born and raised in Rivière aux Canards, Ontario, the daughter of Eva Bessette and Leo Drouillard. She was predeceased by her sister, Joyce Bezaire (2017), and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.Gloria is lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, her Sisters in the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, and her many friends.
For 69 years of religious profession, Gloria lived her vocation with generosity, faithfulness and a deep love for justice. She had a particular concern for those who were vulnerable, marginalized or in need, and she believed deeply in the dignity and worth of every person. Her commitment to justice was not simply something she spoke about - it was evident in the way she lived, served and cared for others.
Education was an important part of Gloria's ministry. She served at all levels of education. Her particular love was secondary education, where she taught and ministered at St. Joseph's School in River Canard, Holy Names College, St. Mary's Academy, Assumption College, and Holy Names High School. Gloria valued not only academic learning but the opportunity to accompany young people during the formative years of their lives. Her commitment to education reflected the values that shaped her life - faith, justice, compassion, and respect for the dignity of each person.
"Whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers and sisters, you do unto me."
Matthew 25:40
Those who knew Gloria will remember her wonderful sense of humour, her ready smile and laughter, and the genuine joy she found in being with people. Her passion for justice was matched by a great capacity for joy. Whether serving others, sharing a meal, singing, celebrating or simply enjoying a conversation, Gloria brought warmth and life to those around her.
The Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary give thanks for the many partners and friends who accompanied Gloria throughout her life and ministry, and especially for the care and support provided by the staff of Cardinal Place and Banwell Gardens. The Sisters are particularly grateful for Gloria's dear friends, Sr. Diane Latremouille, Angie Langlois, Pat Taman and Jude Quick, whose friendship and presence meant so much to her.
