Obituary of Wayne MacDonald Whitfield

Beloved husband of Shirley Jean (VanRooyen) Whitfield, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at the age of 82.

Predeceased by cherished parents, Wilfred (1993) and Ellen (MacDonald-1960). Dear father of Susan and Husband Matthew Simpson, Steven and Wife Natasha (Mullen), and David and Wife Stephanie (Szymkiewicz). He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Chloe and Evan Simpson, Katia, Zara, Petra, Ivy, Molly and Max Whitfield. They were the lights of his life. He is also survived by in-laws, June James (John-2010), Janet and Richard Bradley, and Wendy Neff, and Cliff Velzy. Also, will be missed by ‘adopted sons’, Maher and Ayman Daoud, Ayman’s wife, Rawan and son Joud. 

Wayne was born in Windsor, and loved to travel, seeing many parts of the world. Always returning ‘home’. He was a graduate from the University of Windsor, taught Highschool for a year, then was called to another career and retired after 30 years with Chrysler in 2001.

Wayne was a ‘fighter’ and survived a battle with cancer at the age of 41. When the doctors gave him little hope but prayers, the Medical Team in London, ON, and his family, pulled him through! He was an active volunteer with his Central United Church and the Unemployed Help Centre. Like his father before him, he loved to garden. His loving touch could be seen in the plants and flowers he cared for. 

Visitation will be held at Windsor chapel - Banwell Chapel (11677 Tecumseh Rd E) on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, from 10 am until 12pm. Visitation will continue Wednesday, August 12, 2026 from 10am until the time of service at 11am. Procession to Victoria Memorial Gardens to follow.
