Obituary of Marcia Francine Doherty
DOHERTY, Marcia Francine (nee. Fields)
February 25, 1940 - May 13, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marcia Francine Doherty (nee Fields), who passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026, aged 86, surrounded by family. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and trusted friend, Marcia leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and strength, along with cherished memories among all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Born to the late Marguerite (Platten) and Francis Fields on February 25th, 1940, Marcia grew up in Niagara Falls, Ontario, where she attended the Loretto Academy, and spent many summers with her grandparents Henry and Daisy Fields in Windsor, Ontario. Following in her mother’s footsteps, Marcia graduated from nursing at Assumption College, and began her nursing career at Hotel Dieu hospital in Windsor. At a meeting of the Detroit Ski Club in 1966, she met Dr. John Doherty, whom she would go on to marry in 1971. Together, they raised their family in South Walkerville, where they would live for more than 40 years. An avid traveler her entire life, Marcia visited all corners of the globe, always with friends and family in tow. Even in retirement, her passport remained well used, visiting far away places including Egypt, Costa Rica, Scotland, and Hawaii.
Marcia will forever be missed by her husband of more than 54 years, Dr. John Doherty, her sons John (Nicole) and James Doherty, and her grandchildren Madelyn and Jordyn Doherty. She leaves behind her sister Kathie DeFazio, and will be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews, and many dear friends who will remember her with love and admiration. She is pre-deceased by her parents, and her brother David Brook Fields.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Windsor Regional Hospital’s Metropolitan campus, who treated her with care and kindness during her final hours with us.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 16th from 4-6pm, and Sunday May 17th from 1-3pm at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home, 1700 Tecumseh Rd. E. Immediately following visitation on Sunday, a memorial service will be held from 3-4pm at the funeral home.
Marcia’s dedication to her family, friends, and her community serve as an inspiration to all of us, and provide us with an incredible example of a life well lived. Her kindness, strength, and profound love for her family will never be forgotten.
