Obituary of Lucia Piunno

Lucia Piunno

Born in San Giovanni in Galdo, Italy, daughter of the late Luigi and Incoronata Di Donato and daughter-in-law of the late Antonio and Giuseppina Piunno. Passed away peacefully at Hospice of Windsor surrounded by her loving family. Reunited with her loving husband of 59 years, the late Giovanni Piunno. Cherished mother to Antonio (Lora) and Gino (Anna). Beloved Nonna to Andrea (Joe), Paolo (Gisele), Gianni, Daniel and Bis-Nonna to Navia and Gabriel. Waiting to welcome her into Heaven with open arms is her great-granddaughter, Mia Zagar. Loving sister to the late Pasquale Di Donato (the late Rosanna) and Maria (the late Giovanni Di Girolamo) and sister-in-law to the late Emilia (the late Cirillo D’Amico), Domenico Piunno (the late Rose), Giovanna (the late Nicola Di Gioia), Arnaldo Piunno (Elba), and in Italy, the late Filomena (the late Pietro Geremia). She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.

Lucia left Italy in pursuit of a better life. She first sailed to Venezuela in 1962 and later immigrated to Canada in 1965 where she and Giovanni proudly raised their sons. She was a hard worker at home and in her various occupations including seamstress, machine operator, local juice bottler and baker. Nonna Lucia loved cooking and preparing Sunday meals before the big game. Don’t touch the dial when the Montreal Canadiens are playing as she and her husband were die-hard fans.. She loved spending time with her family and was greatly appreciative, proud and happy of the life she created in her new home in Windsor, Ontario.  She made many new friends in the senior residence over the past three years. A special thanks to the entire staff at Lifetimes on Riverside that provided a loving and caring environment for Lucia. She will be missed deeply, loved always, and never forgotten.

Visitation will be held at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home (South Chapel), 3048 Dougall Ave (519-253-7236) on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Parish Prayers will be at 4:45 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026 at 8:15 am from the funeral home, then to St. Angela Merici Church, 980 Louis Avenue for Funeral Mass at 9:00 a.m. Entombment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery.
