Obituary of Dorothy George

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Dorothy George on May 7, 2026 at the age of 90. Cherished mother to James George. Predeceased by her children, Michael, Sylvia Fraser, Andy and Valerie George. Treasured Baba of Kaitlyn Fraser. Dearest friend to Ken Dennome. Predeceased by her parents Nick and Angelikie Trantos of Toronto. Adored sister of Tom and Athena Trantos and Fanny Trantos. Predeceased by siblings Elsie Kirkos, Leta Strumos, and Sophie Trantos. Survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in Canada, Australia and Macedonia.

Dorothy was born in Mala, Macedonia, and would proudly share that she was born in the barn next to her family’s animals. She knew a happy but simple farm life in the old country, playing with her siblings and dear friend and sister-in-law Dina. Dorothy emigrated to Toronto, Canada with her family at about 12 years old before settling in Windsor to start her family. Dorothy helped her then-husband Nick George in operating the Riverside Tavern, where she worked and raised her children. Many happy years were spent in the family restaurant and Riverside community. Dorothy later moved to LaSalle to be closer to her precious granddaughter Kaitie.

Dorothy’s greatest love was for her kids and granddaughter, and she dedicated herself to caring for them. She hosted many celebrated family dinners where she cooked absolute feasts. Dorothy loved her animals, gardening, reading and being with her family. She was a passionate supporter of the IRIS House of Windsor, working many volunteer events to support the residence.

Dorothy’s humour and kindness will be greatly missed, but her unconditional love for her children and Kaitie will carry on in our hearts.

The family would like to thank staff at Seasons Amherstburg and Extendicare Southwood Lakes for their loving care in Dorothy’s final days.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the IRIS House of Windsor would be greatly appreciated.

A private family service is being held. Burial at Windsor Memorial Gardens.
