Obituary of John Paul O'Donoghue

Dr. John Paul O’Donoghue

December 3 1961 - May 2 2026

It is with heavy hearts that the family of John Paul O’Donoghue announce his sudden passing on Saturday, May 2nd 2026.

Beloved husband of Sheila (Bordin) and proud father of Sean and Siobhan. Predeceased by his parents John and Etta O’Donoghue. Dear Brother of Frank (Audrey) O’Donoghue of Dublin Ireland, Etta (Christy) Monahan of Dublin Ireland, and Irene (late John) Robinson of Regina Saskatchewan. Adored son-in-law of the late Reno and Isabel Bordin of Sault Ste Marie. Cherished brother-in-law to Susan (Dino) Pozzebon of London, Ontario, Richard (Tee) Bordin of Sault Ste Marie, and Terry (Mandy) Bordin of Sault Ste Marie. He will also be greatly missed by his many nieces and nephews across Ireland and Canada.

Paul was born in Dublin, Ireland before immigrating to Quebec at the age of 5. After moving several times across Canada, he settled in Regina to follow in the footsteps of his brother pursuing a career in medicine. Graduating from the University of Saskatchewan College of Medicine in 1987, he began practicing as a Nuclear Medicine Physician in 1994. While working in London, Ontario he met his beautiful wife Sheila. Together they moved to Windsor in 1999 with their 1-year-old son Sean, and welcomed their daughter Siobhan in 2003, making the city their home.

Paul was a die-hard Detroit Lions fan and longtime season ticket holder. He delighted in bringing his loved ones to games to cheer on the Honolulu Blue. Having spent time growing up in Montreal, he was a loyal Canadiens fan. Much like his brother, he was also an avid racing enthusiast, especially Formula One, attending many Grand Prix over the years. A voracious reader, the size of Paul’s book collection astounded many visitors to the O’Donoghue home. His knowledge was vast across topics both niche and general, which made him both an excellent handyman and a feared board game opponent. He would always be seen with a cup of tea in his hand.

Paul impacted the lives of many during his 29 years working at Windsor Regional Hospital. He volunteered much of his time to various committees, always putting the community of Windsor-Essex before himself. For as much as he gave to all those around him, nothing gave him more joy than his family. He was a remarkably proud father and relished creating treasured memories together with his wife and kids. Paul also reveled in many moments spent together with dear friends. A strong man of his Faith, his beliefs dictated the way he lived and the man he was. His sharp wit, intelligence, kindness, compassion, and captivating storytelling will be sorely missed by all that knew him.
