Obituary of Kathryn Jones

JONES. Kathryn

Kathryn Amanda Jones was born on July 5th, 1952 in Windsor, Ontario; the only child born to Lawrence E. Jones and Edith M. (Robbins) Jones. She is predeceased by her older sister Maxine Carol (Milburn) Robinson and survived by her older sister Barbara Ann (Milburn) Grayer. Kathryn peacefully transitioned from her physical state on March 20th, 2026 in her birthplace at age 73.

She grew up on Mercer St. and Windsor Avenue, attending First Baptist Church with family, where her father played the organ. During her elementary and high school years, she got involved in sports like track and field and baseball. Her athletic and competitive nature also translated outside of sports, as she was commonly known for "beating up" most of the boys in her neighbourhood. She later met one boy in particular who stole her heart, becoming the father of her only child, Lonette Jones.

Kathryn’s determination to provide well as a single mother led her to St. Clair College in Chatham. She became a Developmental Services Worker, helping people with disabilities for many years within various institutions. Her generous heart compelled her to sponsor children in Africa through World Vision and to send boxes to third world countries from Samaritan's Purse Canada every Christmas, desiring to help kids in need during the holidays. She merged her joy of caring for children and her pleasure for writing into authoring poems, children’s books, stories and scripts. She even managed to get some of her work published. Her most notable work was writing several segments of a Christian-based television program for kids called Miss Charity's Diner.

Kathryn's defining trait was her love and dedication to her family, with her daughter always attached at her hip. She developed very special bonds with immediate and extended family members, forming lasting relationships with various cousins, and friends who were like family.

She adored her nephews: Craig, Vince (godson)  and her niece (Trisha) , along with her great-nieces and great-nephews. She became like an older sister to her nephew, Lamonte Milburn, devoting immeasurable time with him and creating many memories with his children: Lamonte Jr. (godson), Lamar, Miles, China; their mother (Wendy), Desmon and Ryan (predeceased); along with Ryan's mother (Michelle) .

Kathryn was especially nurturing to her three grandchildren Khalil, Kaia and Jayla, who valued their 'Gramma' and loved her deeply like another mother.

She was also beloved by most people and their pets in her apartment building on Rivard, where she lived for many years. She became well-known in that building for sitting in the apartment lobby everyday, greeting all who came and went.

Kathryn had a beautiful heart for others, and was a 'rock' to those who relied on her. She led a heartfelt and meaningful life, and left a profound and lasting impact on those who were blessed to have known her. Her daughter and grandkids will forever mourn such a huge loss in their lives.

She will be deeply missed...
