Obituary of Anna Marie Duguay

Anna Duguay (née Roussel), born December 5, 1937, in Le Goulet, New Brunswick, passed away peacefully  March 28th, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, resilience, deep faith, and proud Acadian heritage.

A devout Catholic, Anna’s faith was a guiding force throughout her life, shaping her values, her compassion, and her unwavering devotion to family and community. A proud French Acadian, she held her culture close to her heart and ensured it lived on through her family. It was deeply important to her that her children and grandchildren learn and speak French, a gift she passed on with pride and love.

She was a strong and resilient woman whose life was defined by her quiet grace and her ability to persevere through life’s challenges, always finding moments of joy and laughter along the way.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Alfred Duguay, whom she married on June 16, 1962, and who passed away in 2016. She was also predeceased by her cherished daughter Jacqueline (Jackie), who passed in 2018, and is lovingly remembered by Jackie’s husband, Ken Robert.

She leaves behind her devoted daughters, Jeannine (partner Domenic Pizzuti) and Lisa (husband Serafim Almeida), who will forever carry her love and strength with them.

Anna was a proud and loving grandmother to Stephanie Ruggaber (Brendan), Natalie Wellmann (Michael), Marissa McQueen (Nick), Émilie Lajoie (Alec), Marc Pellerin, Nicholas Almeida, and Kailyn Almeida. She was also a delighted great-grandmother to Laurel and Blaire Ruggaber, and eagerly awaited the arrival of baby Jack McQueen, due in early April.

She was predeceased by her parents, Olive and Eutrope Roussel, as well as her siblings Olivina, Rebecca, Delica, Armand, Valere, Oscar, Anita, Yolande, and Elzéar. She is survived by her sister Gemma and brother Normand, along with numerous nieces and nephews who will fondly remember her warmth and kindness.

Anna built a life rich in simple joys and meaningful connections. She treasured time spent with friends, especially Georgeline, Fernande, and Raymonde, and the many companions she shared laughter with during card games at St. Jérôme Church and at La Résidence Richelieu, where she resided.

She enjoyed bowling and was especially known for her exceptional Acadian cooking—her meat pies and traditional stuffing were unmatched and will be dearly missed at family gatherings. She also had a fondness for simple pleasures, including her love of McDonald’s French fries and sweets, and was happiest when sharing a good laugh with those around her.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff and volunteers at the Hospice of Windsor-Essex, notably Drs. Chevalier, Carghill, and Rukavina, and nurses Mikayla and Gina, for their compassionate care. A special and heartfelt thank you to St. Elizabeth’s PSW, Meaghan, who lovingly cared for Anna while she was still at home, and to Bayshore nurse Tamie, whose kindness and care were deeply appreciated.

Anna will be remembered for her strength, resilience, generous spirit, deep faith, joyful laughter, and enduring love for her family. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will take place at Windsor Chapel- Banwell on Tuesday, March 31st from 6pm-9pm.  Funeral service will take place Wednesday, April 1st at 11am at Windsor Chapel-Banwell, with burial immediately following at Heavenly Rest Cemetery.

Catholique fervente, la foi d'Anna a été un guide tout au long de sa vie, façonnant ses valeurs, sa compassion et son dévouement indéfectible à sa famille et à sa communauté. Fière de ses origines acadiennes, elle chérissait sa culture et veillait à la transmettre à sa famille. Il était primordial pour elle que ses enfants et petits-enfants apprennent et parlent le français, un don qu'elle a transmis avec fierté et amour.

Femme forte et résiliente, sa vie était marquée par une grâce discrète et sa capacité à persévérer face aux épreuves, trouvant toujours des moments de joie et de rire.

Elle a été précédée dans la mort par son époux bien-aimé, Alfred Duguay, qu'elle avait épousé le 16 juin 1962 et qui est décédé en 2016. Elle a également été précédée dans la mort par sa fille chérie, Jacqueline (Jackie), décédée en 2018, dont le mari de Jackie, Ken Robert, garde un souvenir affectueux.

Elle laisse dans le deuil ses filles dévouées, Jeannine (son ami, Domenic Pizzuti) et Lisa (son époux, Serafim Almeida), qui garderont à jamais son amour et sa force.

Anna était une grand-mère fière et aimante pour Stephanie Ruggaber (Brendan), Natalie Wellmann (Michael), Marissa McQueen (Nick), Émilie Lajoie (Alec), Marc Pellerin, Nicholas Almeida et Kailyn Almeida. Elle était également une arrière-grand-mère comblée pour Laurel et Blaire Ruggaber et attendait avec impatience la naissance du petit Jack McQueen, prévue pour début avril.

Elle a été précédée dans la mort par ses parents, Olive et Eutrope Roussel, ainsi que par ses frères et sœurs Olivina, Rebecca, Delica, Armand, Valère, Oscar, Anita, Yolande et Elzéar. Elle laisse dans le deuil sa sœur Gemma et son frère Normand, ainsi que de nombreux neveux et nièces qui garderont un souvenir ému de sa chaleur et de sa bonté.

Anna a bâti une vie riche de joies simples et de liens profonds. Elle chérissait les moments passés avec ses amis, notamment Georgeline, Fernande et Raymonde, et les nombreux compagnons avec lesquels elle partageait des rires lors de parties de cartes à l'église Saint-Jérôme et à la Résidence Richelieu, où elle résidait.

Elle aimait jouer aux quilles et était particulièrement reconnue pour son exceptionnelle cuisine acadienne : ses pâtés à la viande et sa farce traditionnelle étaient incomparables et manqueront beaucoup lors des réunions de famille. Elle appréciait aussi les plaisirs simples, comme les frites  de McDonald's et les bonbons , et était la plus heureuse lorsqu'elle partageait un bon rire avec ceux qui l'entouraient.

La famille tient à exprimer sa profonde gratitude à l’ensemble du personnel et aux bénévoles de l'Hospice de Windsor-Essex, notamment aux docteurs Chevalier, Carghill et Rukavina, ainsi qu'aux infirmières Mikayla et Gina, pour leurs soins empreints de compassion. Un merci tout particulier à Meaghan, préposée aux services de soutien à la personne de St. Elizabeth, qui a pris soin d'Anna avec amour à domicile, et à Tamie, infirmière de Bayshore, dont la gentillesse et les soins ont été profondément appréciés.

On se souviendra d'Anna pour sa force, sa résilience, sa générosité, sa foi profonde, son rire joyeux et son amour indéfectible pour sa famille. Son souvenir restera à jamais gravé dans le cœur de tous ceux qui l'ont connue et aimée.

La famille et les amis  seront reçues au salon funéraire Windsor Chapel-Banwell le mardi 31 mars de 18 h à 21 h. Les funérailles auront lieu le mercredi 1er avril à 11 h au salon funéraire Windsor Chapel-Banwell.  L’enterrement suivra au cimetière Heavenly Rest.
