Obituary of Joan Sukbinder Kooner

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving and devoted family, at the age of 69 on March 25, 2026. Beloved wife and life partner of 49 years to Ranjit Singh Kooner. Cherished mother of Justin, Andrew, Gavin and Yasmin. Proud Gramma of Jaya, Kain, and Maya. Loving Mother-In-Law to Sunita, Moni, Elisa and Tejak.

Loving daughter of the late Jeet Singh and the late Naranjan Kaur, and daughter-in-law of Gyan Kooner and the late Balbir Kooner. Dear sister of Linda and Paul, John and Rashpal, the late Balbir and Phinderjit, Judy and Palvinder, Liz and Evan. Beloved sister-in-law of Baljeet and Virender, Ajit and Navreet. She will be deeply missed by her many nieces, nephews, and extended family from all around the world.

After 43 dedicated years, Miss Joan retired as a Supervisor from ABC Day Nursery on Hanna Street, where her nurturing spirit touched countless young lives. Above all else, she cherished her grandchildren, finding endless joy in the time she spent with them. She loved listening to her records, especially “Take Me Home, Country Roads” by John Denver, visiting her favourite stores on the weekends and took great joy in cooking the best Indian dishes for her family.

As a devoted Sikh, she was generous with her time and love by giving back to her community through Seva and always putting others before herself. Loving, kind, and selfless, she was a fierce presence and the glue that held her family together. To many, she was more than a relative or friend-she was simply Momma Joan, a strong and resilient influence whose warmth and care will be deeply missed.

Visitation will take place at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home - Banwell Chapel, 11677 Tecumseh Rd. E. (519-253-7235), on Thursday, April 2, 2026, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Visitation, Path, and Ardas will take place on Friday, April 3, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. A funeral procession will follow to Windsor Crematorium (1100 Division Rd., Windsor). Path, Antim Ardas, and Langar to follow at Gurdwara Khalsa Prakash (7955 County Rd. 42).
