Obituary of George Ulric Derby
George Derby of Bridgewater, NS (previously Tecumseh,ON), passed peacefully into eternal life at the age of 90 on January 23, 2026, surrounded by his beloved wife Marjorie, son David with wife Patti, and daughter Andrea.
George was born on October 16, 1935 in Kingston, Jamaica to Adolphus & Ivy. A devoted follower of Jesus Christ, he lived a life marked by faith, love and service to others.
George was a faithful member of Oakwood Bible Chapel where he served in vocal ministries and participated in fellowship. He found great joy in family, prayer, worship, sports, fishing, travel, and was known for kindness, generosity, and encouragement of others.
George grew up in Jamaica and immigrated to the UK shortly after marriage. He graduated with a Bachelors of Administration degree and worked in the purchasing department for Chrysler Motor Company. He later immigrated to Canada and worked at Windsor Housing Authority as procurement manager before retiring after 25 years.
George is survived by his devoted wife Marjorie of 67 years, lovingly remembered by children: David (Patti), Andrea (Warren) Allen, Janet (late Kevin) Burrell, Paul (Sharon), 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Windsor Chapel - South Chapel, 3048 Dougall Ave, Windsor, ON. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday February 6, 2026 at 11:00am at Oakwood Bible Chapel (2514 Cabana Road W, Windsor, ON) with pastor Richard Douglas officiating. Entombment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens (1805 ON-3, Oldcastle, ON).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Diabetes Canada in George’s memory.
