Obituary of Mirella Spadotto

Mirella Spadotto (née Famiglio) peacefully passed away on January 3, 2026 at the age of 94, surrounded by her loving family. Born on October 23, 1931 to Luigi and Rosina in Azzano Decimo, Italy, Mirella spent her childhood in Italy surrounded by her three sisters, countless friends, and neighbours—eventually falling in love with the boy next door, Giuseppe. Their love blossomed into a marriage, after which they built a life in Windsor, Ontario where they would raise their family together.

Mirella was known for her sharp wit and sense of humour. She was a loving mother and beloved Nonna, always delighted to visit with family and offer sage advice. She was devoted to her garden, where she would home-grow vegetables and cook them into beautiful pastas and risottos for her family. She was proud of her Italian heritage and was a 68 year member of the Italian Women’s Club G. Caboto. She had a wonderful way of making people feel special, whether by showing them her raspberry bush hidden around the corner of the house or pulling old photographs to share stories about her life in Italy and Canada.

Family was central to Mirella’s life. She loved her children, Eros (Lisa) and Denise (Paul Greco), and was the beloved Nonna of Nicole, David, and Gioia. She treasured her daily phone calls and weekly visits with her children and grandchildren. She is also survived by her nephews Ivo (Shirley) and Lou (Charlene)—whom she viewed as a second set of children, her sister Guerrina, and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is predeceased by her parents, her sisters Cila and Iole, and her husband Giuseppe.

Mirella was devoted to her family, her friends, and her faith. She was caring, gracious, and resilient. She is so loved. Though she has gone to be with God and Giuseppe, her legacy will live on through the stories she shared, the recipes she passed along, and the countless moments of love and kinship shared throughout her beautiful life. She will be missed.
