Obituary of Margaret Lochhead
Margaret “Marg” Elizabeth Lochhead (née Baker), BFA, BA Music, BEd
June 25, 1950 -December 21, 2025
Marg Lochhead died peacefully, though unexpectedly, before the Christmas holidays in the house where she and two previous generations of her family also lived and died. Marg attended King Edward Public School, later graduating from Walkerville Collegiate Institute. Following the death of her parents Ed (1998) and Edna Baker (2009), Marg and her husband Brian returned to the family home to live out their retirement years.
A creative force until the end of her life, Marg was a visual and textile artist, musician, and educator, obtaining her arts and teaching degrees from the University of Windsor and Master Weaver certification from Sir Sanford Fleming College. Inspiring as she was talented, Marg shared her lifelong passion for the arts through public workshops and demonstrations, private lessons, and with her many students in the Greater Essex County District School Board, where she worked as a music teacher. She was involved in a number community organizations, bands, and choirs including the Wrenette Corps, the Windsor Weavers and Spinners Guild, RCSCC Agamemnon Band, the Central United Church Seniors Band and Handbell Choir, Greater Windsor Concert Band, Chatham Concert Band, Music Express, Collegium Musicum Early Music Ensemble, and Silver Ambassadors Concert Band.
Marg was also a woman of deep Christian faith. Growing up she attended First Lutheran Church, and later Chalmers and Central United Church, before joining the Anglican communion at St. Mary’s Walkerville, where she enjoyed singing in the choir and the fellowship of the Anglican Church Women’s group.
Marg is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Brian, her children Andrew (Ellie) of Toronto, Sarah (Max) and grandson Felix of Barrie, her sisters Valerie (Brian) and Maureen (Chris), and her brother Richard (Caroline), her Great-Aunt Eleanor Wilkinson, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews living throughout Canada and the United States.
A service of remembrance will take place Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Walkerville at 11:00 AM, with a reception to follow. Attendees are encouraged to come wearing knitwear that Marg had made and gifted them. Interment will take place at Bethel Cemetery, Harwich Twp., Chatham-Kent, in a private ceremony in the spring.
The family wishes to extend our greatest thanks to Windsor Chapel Funeral Home for assisting in carrying out Marg’s final wishes, to the pastoral and administrative team at St. Mary’s for helping to realize her service of remembrance, to the Anglican Church Women’s group for the food and refreshment at the reception, the members of the Silver Ambassadors and St. Mary’s Church Choir for providing the music for the service and reception, and to all of her and our friends and family who have offered comfort, love, and support, throughout this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marg’s memory to a charity of your choosing
