Obituary of Junjian (Hongguang) Lian

In Loving Memory of Lian, Junjian (Hongguang)

Junjian (Hongguang) Lian, our beloved father, was called home to be with the Lord on October 19, 2025, at the Hospice Residential Home in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. He was peacefully reunited in heaven with his cherished wife, Fan Wei.

Born on the 20th day of the 3rd lunar month in 1940 in Simapu, Dayao, Chaoyang, Guangdong, China, Junjian was a man of remarkable resilience, intelligence, and devotion from his early years. He grew up in a family of humble means and, understanding the hardships his parents and elder sister endured, was determined to help. His academic excellence earned him a place at the Hunan Changsha Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, where he began working to support his family while studying.

After graduation, he was assigned to the Baoding Metallurgical Geological Exploration Company in Hebei. It was there he met and married the love of his life, Fan Wei. His career as a geological surveyor took him across the vast landscapes of China. A man of immense foresight and entrepreneurial spirit, he also pursued business ventures on the side to provide for his family in Guangdong. In 1982, he moved his family to Tianjin, serving as Deputy Director of the Information and Science & Technology Departments at the Tianjin Geological Research Institute, and later as Secretary-General of the Chinese Rare Earth Association until his retirement. In the 1980s, he successfully expanded a decorative materials business in Ningxia, which ultimately enabled him to build a new home for his parents and help secure a prosperous life for his entire family.

Above all his professional achievements, Junjian was a pillar of strength, generosity, and love—a devoted son who honored his parents, a supportive brother who guided his siblings, and a caring uncle who helped his nieces and nephews.

A pivotal chapter in his life began in 1998 while visiting family in the U.S. He and his wife experienced a profound divine rescue in the desert, a moment that deeply moved them by the Holy Spirit. On the eve of their return to China, they were baptized at the home of Pastor Zhu Jian in New Mexico, dedicating their lives to Christ.

In 2011, Junjian and his wife immigrated to Canada to be with their family. Their faith was profoundly tested and strengthened over the next years. They both battled cancer for five years, during which Junjian underwent open-heart valve replacement surgery. Time and again, they witnessed God's miraculous deliverance from the brink of death.

In 2018, Junjian began his final, challenging journey with Alzheimer's disease. This path, though filled with difficulties—from getting lost for hours and losing short-term memory to needing full-time care, falls, pain, and agitation—was also overflowing with God's ever-present grace, provision, and faithfulness. In his final years, he expressed a profound depth of care and affection, a journey that brought healing to those around him.

His life stands as a powerful testimony—from a man who relied on his own strength and wisdom to provide, to a man who learned to lean completely on God's grace and faithfulness through suffering.

He has now finished his race and is receiving the crown of life. The legacy of his love, resilience, and faith will forever live on in our hearts.

He is lovingly remembered by his two daughters, Lian Jie (Tessie Wroth) and her husband Jim, and Jing Lian. He was a cherished grandfather to Esther, James, Hannah, and Caleb.
