Obituary of Joseph Driskill

Dr. Joseph Driskill (1946-2025)

Beloved Educator, Spiritual Mentor and Clergyperson.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dr. Joseph Driskill, beloved husband, uncle, cousin and professor who died July 17, 2025 in London, Ontario.

A third-generation clergyperson, Rev. Dr. Driskill devoted his life to the integration of learning, faith and compassionate service.  Dr. Driskill held ministerial standing with the United Church of Canada, and with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Canada and the United States.

Upon his graduation, in his first pastorate he served at a church in Regina, Saskatchewan.  Notably, he served for twelve years as the United Church Chaplain to Western University in London, Ontario.  After which he obtained his doctorate and taught as a Professor of Spirituality and Dean of the Disciples Seminary Foundation at the Pacific School of Religion (PSR) in Berkeley, California.

Since 2020 he preached intermittently at Hillcrest Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Toronto, Ontario.

Joe was a musician, author, and avid reader.  He and his wife Leslie enjoyed attending theatre, concerts and figure skating events.  They especially loved travelling and experiencing new cultures and wildlife throughout the world.  Above all he prioritized time with friends and family.

Joe’s enduring legacy lies in his deep commitment to education, pastoral care, and spiritual formation.

He is survived by his beloved wife Leslie, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and family in the United States.  Joe will also be dearly missed by countless students and colleagues whose lives were profoundly shaped by his grace, intellect, humour, and kindness. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or London Food Bank. As per Joe’s wishes, a private family burial has taken place and a memorial service will be held in London.

Arrangements entrusted to Windsor Chapel Funeral Home – Banwell Location (519-253-7235).
