Obituary of Robert Gerald Murphy

Passed away suddenly on July 16, 2025, in Windsor, Ontario, at 84 years of age. Survived by his wife of almost 62 years, Elaine Murphy (née Larivière). Robert is reunited with his parents James H. Murphy and Mary Estella (née McPharlin), as well as his brother John (Jack) Murphy, sister Mary Tracey, his brother James Murphy, and sister Catherine St. Louis. He is survived by his sister Margaret Lois Crough and twin brother William (Bill) Murphy, his daughers Donna Murphy (Roderick McLean), Michelle Murphy (Sharazer Malik), his son Brendon Murphy, his grandchildren Alexander, Emmanuelle, Bruce, Jacqueline and Zoe, along with his many nephews, nieces, close friends, as well as all those he loved enough to call “Dick”, “Jane” or “Gladys”.

Robert served as an educator and principal in the Windsor area for almost 40 years. Over his lifetime, he was involved with the Knights of Columbus, remained active in his local parish, and was an avid sailor and golfer. He was an all-round amazing handyman and gardener. Robert was always happiest when tinkering away in his old grubby work clothes on one project or another. Some of his favourite moments were sharing a hearty laugh or engaging in feisty debate with his close friends and family over a beer and a burger.

Family and friends will be received at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, (462 Advanced Blvd., Tecumseh) on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 for Memorial Visitation from 10:00 until time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at St. Williams Cemetery (245 Emery Dr. Emeryville, ON, N0R 1C0). Arrangements entrusted to WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME - BANWELL CHAPEL (519-253-7235).

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Downtown Mission. In honour of Robert’s zest for life, friends and family are kindly requested to honour him by attending services wearing their favorite shade of blue.
