Obituary of Christine Punga

Christine Mary Ann “Chris” Punga, age 71, passed away Thursday afternoon, June 26, 2025 surrounded by family. She was born in Leamington, Ontario, April 16. 1954.

Chris married Preston Punga on October 6, 1984, and together shared life for over 40 years. She
was a devoted mother to three children; Michael (Kathryn), Nicholas, and Kathryn, later a beloved
grandmother to George Carson and Regina Christine.

Her memory lives on with her sisters and brothers; Danny & Paula, Diane & Kelly, David & Jill,
Sheila & Peter, in-laws; Mark & Wanda, Mark & Emma, and their families. She is predeceased by her
parents; John Welacky and Julia Banda, in-laws George and Ginger Punga, sister in-law Karen, and niece
Erin.

Chris attended grade school at Most Precious Blood, and would often spend recess with her
friends in the back of the field, at the fence of her future in-laws, George & Ginger. A story often retold in
both perspectives by Chris and her mother in-law.

After graduating from St Clair College, Chris worked first as a medical secretary, then office clerk
at Manulife. After the birth of her first child, Chris would spend many years as a homemaker for the
family. Once the children were older, she returned to retail at Schwab’s & Primo’s, where she retired in
2022.

Chris volunteered her time to Jaycee’s with her husband, and her children fondly remember her
time organizing school events for St. Andrew’s. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League at
Most Precious Blood Parish.

Chris had a love for arts and crafts. Crafting for fun, gifts, or for fundraiser events, many people
in her life have a decoration or an ornament she made. A token of her creativity and love.
She enjoyed time spent with friends, her monthly cards group gatherings, and cherished days
spent with her siblings and her many nieces and nephews.

Chris was a beacon of strength, stability, and compassion for both her family and in every group
she was a part of. Her family is forever grateful for all the work, support, and love she gave over the
years.

The family would like to extend their warmest thanks during this time, to family and friends who
shared this journey with her. They know how much she meant to so many people, and the family would
like to express, on her behalf, how much they meant to her.

The family will receive friends for visitation 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Windsor Chapel Funeral
Homes on June 30th, 2025. Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 2nd, 2025, at Most Precious Blood Parish.
Christine will be laid to rest at Victoria Memorial Gardens.

Donations would be appreciated to WRH Foundation or Transition to Betterness. Online condolences and cherished memories may be shared with the family at www.windsorchapel.com
