Obituary of Elaine Gammage
GAMMAGE- Elaine (Nee Comartin)
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Elaine Gammage, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, on June 12, 2025. Elaine was born on May 13, 1951, and spent her life dedicated to her family, her career, and the communities she served.
Elaine was the loving wife of James R. Gammage for 52 years, and together they built a life full of love, laughter, and memories. She was the proud mother of Emilee (Mike) Drew and Justin (Anna McNichol) Gammage, and a cherished grandmother to Alina, Ethan, Kiana, Jayden, and Davin, all of whom were the light of her life. Elaine is also deeply missed by her sisters Yvette Janisse, Carmel Lebert and Madeline Reid and her late brother Louis Comartin and many friends who loved her for her kindness, warmth, and generosity.
In addition to being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Elaine was a tireless advocate for community health care and education. She had a remarkable 40-year career at the Chatham Kent Health Alliance, where she not only cared for patients but also mentored dozens of the next generation of health care professionals through her role as a clinical instructor for diagnostic imaging students. Her passion for teaching and advancing the field of healthcare led to her role as Head of the Diagnostic Imaging Department, where she made a lasting impact. Elaine also served on the Board of the Tilbury Health Care team, continuing her dedication to improving the lives of others.
In addition to her illustrious healthcare career, Elaine was also a top-performing realtor with Rexmax in Chatham during the 1990s. Her dedication and expertise in real estate mirrored her commitment to excellence in healthcare, showcasing her versatility and drive to succeed in multiple fields.
Elaine's love for life extended beyond her career. She was an avid traveler who found joy in exploring new places, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and friends. She had a deep passion for gardening and landscaping, often spending hours tending to her beautiful yard and finding peace in the natural world around her. Elaine was also known for her love of dancing with her husband Jim, and the two shared many joyful moments on the dance floor, a testament to their enduring bond and love for life.
Elaine’s commitment to her health was reflected in her daily walking routine, a habit that saw her wear out several pairs of walking shoes over the years. She found strength and tranquility in these moments, which allowed her to remain active and engaged in all aspects of her life.
Elaine's legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved her and in the many lives she touched throughout her career and personal life. She will be remembered for her compassion, her dedication, and the love she gave so freely to those around her.
At her request and wish cremation has taken place.
