Obituary of Italia Olivastri (nee Del Monte)

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Italia on May 18, 2025 at the age of 94 years.  Devoted wife of the late Eugene Sr. (2016).  Loving Mother of Gene (Eugene Jr.) & Debbie, Joe & Lisa, and Angela Goulet & Tom Thompson. Dear grandma of Robert Goulet (Cheryl), Justin Goulet (Ashley), Geno (Meaghan), Jocelyn Parent (Neil), Sarah Girard (Mitch) and Adam (Alexandra). Proud great-grandma (Grandma Bang-Bang) of Amber, Freddie, Cody, Gina, Matteo, Chelsea Ella, Michael, Sloane, Crew and Annie. Predeceased by her siblings Tony, Peppino, Benny, Joe, Alfonsa and Antoinette.

Survived by many nieces and nephews. Italia was a friend to all who passed her door on Chilver Road. Many of her friends and neighbours held a special place in her heart.

Sticking to tradition she loved red wine, Italian opera music, spending time with her husband and family. The love she showed while taking care of her grandchildren will be remembered and sadly missed. She was well known for making friends while sitting on the front porch. She spent time in her garden and tended to her roses with great care. She had a exceptional talent for cooking and worked at Central Park Lodge Retirement Home as the head cook for over 20 years.

A special debt of gratitude must be extended to our friend and Mom’s personal care giver Grace Castro whose love and devotion never went unnoticed.

 Visitation will be held at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home - South Chapel, 3048 Dougall Avenue (519-253-7236) on Thursday, May 22, 2025 from 2-5pm & 7-9pm. Funeral service will take place in the chapel on Friday May 23, 2025 at 11:00am. Entombment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Windsor-Essex County would be greatly appreciated.
